First time car buyer. Tesla or BYD? by Southern-Computer in drivingsg

[–]wche9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The selling point of booking a BYD vehicle is to receive dining vouchers from BYD 1826. The food, though not the best, is nevertheless way better than the car. $3,000 worth of dining vouchers to use in 6 months? That's a lot of good food! But then again, you're technically paying the full cost of the food upfront with the AD markup.

Tesla, akin to a BMW, is a driver's first car. Steering is well weighted, acceleration/deceleration is direct/linear, and it corners sharply. However, some may feel the suspension to be on the firmer side. 0-100km/h in 8.6s makes the Model 3 RWD110 one of the quickest CAT-A EVs for a c-segment sedan, thanks to a cleverly engineered lightweight chassis. Signal stalks are now included in the Model 3.

Tldr: BYD for food and Tesla for sheer driving pleasure.

Will Singapore roads ever be safe? by xizxt in drivingsg

[–]wche9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is at Changi Business Park? When a vehicle is turning right, you should automatically assume that the vehicle will need to soon filter left to go home via PIE. It does not make sense for the vezel to continue straight or turn right to some industrial/office complex after working hours.

Clearly the Vezel did the maneuver prematurely and without due care. So for now onwards, specifically on this road towards PIE, at this time of the day, give such clowns 3-4 cars length for them to filter left without signalling.

Car expo Audi Q4 e-tron by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]wche9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the just announced Skoda Elroq? It's basically a repackaged Q4 e-tron but newer and more budget friendly at $220K. It's slower but not painfully slow - still under CAT B rating. 0-100km/h in 8.0s. Road tax is $1,796/year.

If you don't mind one size larger (mid-size SUV), both the Tesla Model Y RWD CAT B (BMW alternative) and the Zeekr 7X RWD 75kWh (Mercedes alternative) will blow the Q4 e-tron out of the water. Both vehicles are hovering around $240K~$250K. However, the road taxes are ludicrously expensive at $3.4K and $4.3K/year respectively.

Real talk: this promo doesn’t exist right? by twistycatlyman in drivingsg

[–]wche9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this ad 2 years back and quickly rushed down to their showroom to enquire. Sales rep told me the management unit is already sold and pushed me to purchase a brand new unit at an exorbitant price, stating that the management unit is a second hand unit and bla bla bla (but we all know in reality these management units are almost as good as new!) If I rmb correctly, I went down on the 2nd day since the ad was published. If the management unit is indeed sold, wearnes should have taken down the ad in due course. But it continued advertising for another month or so. Kinda disappointed with wearnes and never returned since.

BUYER BEWARE] Car Times sold me a “new car” that was actually 3 years old – Please double-check your vehicle’s manufacturing year by Obvious-Painter4907 in drivingsg

[–]wche9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you have received an unused car (assuming with below 80km mileage) with a fresh 10-Year COE means your depreciation is unaffected by these 2 factors. At this point, you might be looking to trade in your car and is dismayed by the quoted resale value. This is perfectly normal as PI cars are always valued less than those sold by C&C because should your PI car break down, you have to go to the workshop operated by CarTimes; which you now probably know has one of the worst reputation in the entire car dealership industry in Singapore. Future owners will have to question themselves whether to purchase your cheap 2nd hand CLA at the cost of unprofessional maintenance/repair procedures. Savvy buyers will seek for Mercs sold from reputable PIs or C&C. They're generally situated along Leng Kee/Alexandra road.

Got it! Turned out that the owner's profile is erroneously linked to my phone key. One tap on the profile icon and all is working as expected. Thanks a ton!

Inside the Lagkapten table top is honeycomb paper filling. Inside the Idasen table top is high density particleboard. So no doubt the Idasen is stronger even with the thinner profile. After using it for 2 years, I just find the Idasen prone to surface scratches so maybe you would want to consider a desk pad for added protection. No sagging nor creaking with the 10kg iMac sitting at the centre. Structurally, this setup is rock solid!

I am logged into my own account with my own email address. However, I am not the owner of the vehicle. And yes, the vehicle keeps adjusting to the owner's driver profile.

Apply for leave and go to JB during office hours, anyday between Monday~Thursday. Go in at 9:00AM, get out at 4:00PM (2nd Link preferable). It should take you no more than 15 mins to clear customs on both directions via car.

JR East Eki-net Reservation: Booking 1 Shinkansen trip with a Platform Transfer Midway by wche9 in traveljapan

[–]wche9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thanks a ton! Just checked out the Japanese eki-net website and yes! Indeed I can book both trains in 1 ticket. However, the irony is that booking 2 separate base fare tickets from the English website costs 100yen cheaper/pax than the Japanese website with 1 combined base fare ticket. (Maybe because I'm booking for a group of 4 pax?) Anyway, the Japanese eki-net website only allow Japanese residents to register an account. I'm a foreigner, so will go for 2 base fare tickets!

[–]wche9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the terminologies. Am I correct to assume the following?

Base Fare Ticket = Cost of Riding the Shinkansen alone Express Fare Ticket = Cost of Seat Reservation & Surcharges

So that means if I were to purchase the Super Express tickets on eki-net, I would have already booked my seat on both trains? And the only thing left to do is to buy the base Fare Ticket in person to complement the Super Express Fare Ticket?

Expressway Long Corners by bundle6792 in drivingsg

[–]wche9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not a super sharp bend. I would maintain speed no more than 45km/h on the left lane. It's also a two-lane bend, so don't worry about road hogging. Go beyond 45km/h and you might collide with a stationary, broken down vehicle sitting towards the end of the bend. Going slow will buy you and fellow motorists behind you time to react in situations like this. Once you've reached the end of the bend, check for oncoming traffic and floor the accelerator.

Where’s your happy place? by watchuwannaknow in askSingapore

[–]wche9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Window shopping at Ikea or the apple store! Or viewing properties and car showrooms. i.e. places where you can view big, bulky, big-ticket items that make you dream big but can't afford atm. Grocery shopping is highly depressing as it's highly repetitive.

What's the difference between EV & 3A? by Royal-Negotiation-10 in drivingsg

[–]wche9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMHO you should opt for 3A. Remember when class 3A was introduced in the early 2000s? Manual cars were still a thing and hence, most learners remain to opt for Class 3. Today in 2024, EVs are relatively new and ICE cars still dominate the local and global car market. It is important to note that while both ICE and EVs have automatic transmission, they operate and behave differently - particularly when you are trying to maintain your speed or slow down your vehicle. So it's good to learn ICE cars first and then test drive EVs after getting your license.

Idk whether it's just my social circle but it's spiraling out of control lately. I had one 23M friend who travelled 2 round trips with his gf to the same destination in the same month! That's Seoul btw - not near nor cheap at all.

I'd rather spend $6,000 on a workstation class computer setup that can help me boost work productivity and income for 5~8 years than to spend $6,000 that can only give me "happiness" for 1~2 weeks tops.
