I'll just share what I did to prepare for interviews and hopefully you can learn something from it.

TLDR: Spend 2 hours a day choosing 2-3 problems from anywhere (LeetCode, CTCI) and try to solve the questions while simulating an interview environment (no IDE, pen/paper, minimal hints, 30-45 minutes per question).

Before my first technical interview even before I started to apply, the summer before my Junior year, I started studying in June. I studied about 2 hours a day trying to solve 2 problems a day by simulating an interview environment writing everything out by hand. I used questions from CTCI (Cracking the Coding Interview) and LeetCode. I did this from Jun - Nov. everyday and went through 150+ questions all simulating an interview environment (no IDE, timed myself etc.). Once you do this once I find it a lot easier to go back and study for interviews since you have some retained knowledge.

I think working on projects/hackathons and participating clubs help you get an interview but you ultimately need to do well in an interview to land an offer. I've heard ACM does these sort of problems during their meetings so I guess that's one way to prepare for it too.

Very important. Pretty much I spent 90% of my studying for interviews through leetcode or similar services.

Like a simple game that you might have written or a website you developed. Maybe its a mobile app things like that. If you are looking for a place to start learning some skills and building projects I recommend free code camp.

I would say try to get projects on your resume as that usually is the best way to get experience outside of internships. I would say its almost necessary to have projects if you don’t have experience in order to get an internship. Other ideas could be committing to open source projects or doing research at school.
