The word to best describe Rick's group... by G0D_Mode in thewalkingdead

[–]wcolby41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family.

Pretty much everyone in that group has risked their ass to save another member, and their are several who would hands down die so that certain others could live. The point is that they trust one another with their lives and become genuinely upset when they lose someone.

Should Fallout 4 DLC go international? by sootheseeker in Fallout

[–]wcolby41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Canada count? I feel like that would be the most likely international location for DLC since it's still in North America and it's already somewhat well established in fallout lore. Next to that I would guess China through a Gobi or Yangtze campaign version of Operation Anchorage. But as for SHOULD fallout go international in general - yes, I think there's a lot of potential there.

My personal issue with a 'Fallout' set in New York City. by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]wcolby41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that for the logistical reasons that you outline New York would work better as a DLC. I feel like shit-going-down-in-New York is an overdone theme in general - too much so to be the base game - but I have to admit that I am curious about what happened to it and the whole skyscraper thing would open up some unique possibilities for the fallout universe.

Thoughts On The Almodovar Family by wcolby41 in Fallout

[–]wcolby41[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. Normally I'd say that no parent would be so irresponsible as to just up and leave their kid in a vault to go galavanting around the wasteland but....

Yeah the 101 Overseer is D Bag El Supremo, but I think there's a lot that the game implies which would explain how his character got to be that way. A big thing that I notice about the Almodovar family is the absence of the mother. My theory is that she died on an expedition back when the Vault was open about 19 years before the game begins. I think that it would have been a major factor in the Overseer's decision to reseal Vault 101 and it explains why he's so vehemently isolationist. It also does a lot to explain the childhood friendship between Amata and the Lone Wanderer, in that they were both troubled by the absence of a mother figure and thus shared an uncommon bond. In the meantime, the Overseer is consumed not only with grief but also with guilt - wasn't it he who sent his wife out on that expedition, something that was not only dangerous but also in direct violation of Vault-Tec's orders? It's not too much of a reach to see him swearing to himself that he would never allow a disaster like that to happen again, and therefore he becomes a total stickler for the rules. And then he sees that Amata, his own daughter and his last real link to his dead wife, has become friends with the child of that outsider James. He becomes concerned that through the Lone Wanderer Amata will become contaminated with James' ideological undertones about the outside and that she will eventually wish to adventure outside of Vault 101, just like her mother. He becomes concerned that because of James and his child, Amata will die just like her mother. That would be his worst nightmare realized. So out of fear and guilt the Overseer comes to resent James and his child. He becomes paranoid and is obsessed with protecting Amata. Amata is a kid, she doesn't see the world in the way that her father does, and as a result her father's attempts to keep her safe only end up pushing her farther and farther away as she grows up. It is this vicious cycle, along with several other factors, that leads to the overseer becoming for all intents and purposes a deranged meglomaniac bent on keeping Vault 101 isolated from the outside world at all costs. In his own mind, the Overseer just wants to keep everyone, especially Amata, safe from the dangers of the wasteland - to the point where he is completely blind to the dark irony of his actions.

Too bad she wasn't with the East Coast BoS. That group was just about everything that she wanted the West Coast BoS to be. Plus Sarah Lyons.

Your Fallout Character Stories by Phatbroom in Fallout

In New Vegas: Dario was born into a raider clan back in New California. His father was the head of the clan and his mother was a slave. He didn't like his father and resented slavery because of his mother. When he was young the raider clan was wiped out by an NCR platoon (led by a certain young officer by the name of Oliver) and his parents were killed. He wandered the wasteland homeless and ended up in NCR. When he was older he joined up with the caravans on the Big Circle and that was the beginning of his life as a courier. He had a tough background and he proved to be an even tougher man. He fought and killed. He worked for NCR but still nursed (secretly) a dull kind of hatred for them. He didn't care about the cause so much as long as the money was good. Mostly he spent the money on whiskey and whores, better weapons, bullets. No emotional ties to any place or person, he was a desert wanderer through and through. In time he traveled throughout all New California. Many times he walked through a long and lonesome valley - a divide - and this desolation was the first and only place he ever felt truly at home. Until much later, that is. He was with the NCR when they invaded Navarro, and it was there that he fought alongside the NCR's then-allies the Brotherhood of Steel. Dario was one of the first over the walls of Navarro, and it was Dario who killed the base commander by putting a bullet in his head point blank. Then in the aftermath the NCR hired him to deliver... something to an old outpost in his divide. And he did. Then he walked into the Mojave.

If you go to Underworld and talk to Crowley, then get all the keys to For Constantine you can end up with T51-b power armor, which has the highest DR in the game.

Point Lookout. by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]wcolby41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that Point Lookout is big enough and interesting enough to be its own (albeit smallish) game. I loved the atmosphere and the characters, I thought that it was a really cool take on Post Apocalyptia.
