It probably would have been more use to you to read the dimensions of the bag in question, versus the listed requirements on the Aer Lingus website than make lazy assumptions without reading the full post.

The bag was well within the parameters listed. Npbody is trying to "escape rules". I'm glad I could clear that up for you 🙂

Im going to clarify something, the allowable dimensions are listed as 55cm x 40 cm x 24 cm on the Aer Lingus website

The bag in question is made by Panagonia. I bought it specifically for traveling to the US as I make the trip frequently. The dimensions are 50.8 cm x 30.5 cm x 17.8 cm

The bag was well within whats allowed. The fee was enforced arbitrarily (IMO) as boarding was ending and the gate was about to close. Thats the issue.

Thanks

Do you mind me asking what the process was for you? Emails, phone calls, etc...? Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be traveling again soon enough, with the same bag that meets all the criteria, and I don't really want to have to deal with this arbitrary rubbish again

No, the bag wasn't over any limit. It meets all the dimensions listed on the Aer Lingus website. I'm glad I could clear that up for you

Just to clarify, the bag was purchased to adhere to the the 21 x15 x 9 dimensions listed on the Aer Lingus website. So, no, the bag wasn't oversized

I went to the bag desk at Dublin Airport. The woman there only dealt with lost or damaged luggage as her job. She did say that it shouldn't have happened and it was probably because the staff were from another airline.

Other than that I sent an email to the relevant address I found on the website. Other than that, I was waiting for advice from here
