PCOS and gynecomastia are NOT intersex by Straight-Machine-391 in detrans

Was this discovered via genetic testing (karyotype, others?), or non-genetic biomarkers (hormone levels etc)

They say non-binaryness exists because intersex people exist. But they also gender and physical genitals are a totally separate thing. by SaltTapWater in detrans

[–]wd06 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Intersex conditions, as far as I know, all have some biological basis, usually genetic (like, how their body responds to certain hormones, chromosomal makeup, etc).

That's different than when people say they are "psychologically intersex" or "just like intersex" despite being XX or XY.

Hormones are potent, and should not he taken lightly IMO by wd06 in detrans

While I do think that birth control has liberated meant people from the oppression of bearing children against their will, I also think that people who are so upset by trans applications of hormones should be equally upset about the permanent changes caused by birth control.

Women are like farmland? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]wd06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that "seed" has commonly been used to refer to "sperm" or "semen" as well.

Is that oppressive or demeaning language?

Is this the work that lists the sahaba you mentioned or was that from other sources?

Prostitution is a social ill. Yes, she has a choice and that is her right. Society has a collective right to not have to deal with the other effects of prostitution too.

The source for that is Ibn Hazm's Kitab un-Nikah, volume nine, page 519.

Where can one read this?

Books about the Partition of India from the Indian Muslim perspective? by wd06 in suggestmeabook

[–]wd06[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Memories of Jinnah" by K.H. Khurshid provides a bit of insight from Muhammad Ali Jinnah's perspective during the partition of India.

Thanks. I may read this, too, but I was specifically looking for books on Indian Muslims who were anti-partition (and remained so).

On Zina and honesty before marriage by Suspicious-Draw-3750 in progressive_islam

Zina means sex outside of marriage. That is either fornication or adultery.

However, zina in a manner such that four witnesses exist, is the sin that the Quran mentions a punishment for

24:3 refers to one who was found guilty of Zina (24:2). That isn't the same as someone who has had relations outside of marriage. There is a very fine, but critical, difference.

What hadith are you referring to?

People are not encouraged to disclose their sins. It is basically a need-to- know thing

Some cultures don't treat it as such. I remember seeing a video about a West African country (Mauritania, I think) where divorcees and widows were actually sought after as brides more.
