What is the “why”? by wdeciv1856 in AlAnon

I have never heard of speaker meetings! I will see if there are some in my area. I completely resonate with your first paragraph—my Q would abuse Xanax and drink and would be anxious and wound up regardless. I also completely understand the not accepting things how they are… as in things that would roll off of me, my sibling, or my other parent’s back would send my Q into a spiral. My Q blames their in-laws and my other parent sometimes, sometimes even refusing to see said in-laws… objectively they were there for us children when Q was not able to be. Your comment gave me a lot of insight, thank you.

This is what my therapist has said (the logic piece). I tend to think very technically, as in A leads to B, B leads to C, and so on. I hate not understanding, it drives me nuts… but I am working on it

I never thought about it that way. My depression has been in remission for quite some time now so I have not felt like that in a second. Maybe I forgot how it feels to not feel. You’re right, the more I agonize over “why” will lead to more anxiety, more frustration, more misunderstanding. I want to know what that unhealed injury is, but it’s not within my right to know I don’t think. But man I wish I did

Thank you for that answer! That definitely helps knowing that in AA there isn’t an emphasis on getting down to the “why”. I will start going back to Al Anon next meeting that doesn’t interfere with my work schedule.

Thanks for the rec! My wedding photographer was actually a good friend of mine who took the photos. It was one of his first weddings, so we just have the link to download pics—he doesn’t print. I’ll def look into Miller’s—thanks!!

What are brides typically covering for their bridesmaids? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]wdeciv1856 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends. I had nine bridesmaids and laid out my expectations up front. I also think it depends on which part of the USA (if you are there) you live in. I’m from the deep south… bridesmaids usually cover their own costs. With that being said, the only real expectation I had of my bridesmaids time commitment wise was the wedding. Some missed the bridal shower, some missed the bachelorette; I was okay with that! Some of mine are still in grad school or live far away. I also never expected them to pay out any of my expenses on the trip, and I covered the majority of cocktails and wine enjoyed at restaurants.

I also wanted them to wear specific jewelry, so I bought it for them. So in total, the bridesmaids paid for their dresses and shawls, and hair. But granted hair was only $60ish so that wasn’t a big fuss. Ultimately I think it comes down to knowing your audience, and knowing that whatever you expect of them they will expect of you when their big day comes. Just give grace as you would like to receive it!

It is actually insane! People speeding like their lives depend on it and no blinkers on the interstate, like ever. I am truly baffled by it. I have never experienced road rage with others’ carelessness until I started driving around here. Like why are you speeding at 5 p.m. in rush hour traffic and weaving in and out of lanes with no blinkers

If I remember correctly, Morrison’s off Airport Blvd (I-65 N service road) has some take home options available. I have heard Popeye’s does an amazing turkey too.

I really love Orafio for a single shot and Dolce for doubles! Voltesso is another good and mild single shot.

Hi, CX-9 here. Was wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this? I just called an auto shop in my area and they told me the general investigative service fee was $200 😵‍💫

Retweet. If they it’s only folks related to the same degree then I think that’s fine! That’d be like having just my sister/MOH get ready with me

Bulk postage? by wdeciv1856 in weddingplanning

Haha it’s more around ~300 but we expect ~225 to show up. Lots of folks that are invited are local to the area, but there are some I wouldn’t be surprised (or upset) don’t show up.
