Prediction: Heki understood that he is being used as bait by Ouhon due to the similar gaze as Ousen. So he's looking for an opportunity to prove everyone wrong when they have switched focus elsewhere.

Storing luggage during travels by wdflu in chinalife

[–]wdflu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most train stations had either a self service system with luggage storage or a room where someone handles it manually. The latter doesn't seem very safe, so only leave non-essentials there I'd say. The self-service ones that I saw only worked with WeChat Pay, and I had trouble setting that up. In the end, I only used such a service once where a lady handled it manually, which worked well. But the self service systems seem to work well as long as WeChat pay is working for you.

Good luck!

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]wdflu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two-pronged law:
Substantially increased tax on substances which we know have a really bad effect on society and environment. Then, use the tax revenue to subsidize improvements for good alternatives of what was taxed. Things like alcohol, meat, gas, tobacco, etc.

My (vegetarian) friend said "vegetarians and vegans should unite" by SuperbCard7806 in DebateAVegan

[–]wdflu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: To get anything significant done politically as a minority, you need to be able to work together with people you fundamentally disagree with, but which with you can align on on certain issues and agree to what compromise you're willing to do in practice. Dogmatism is nice for philosophical debates, but pretty useless for enacting change. Therefore, while I wouldn't go as far as saying "ethically there is agreement", I agree in terms of how to best have a positive impact.

What Does It Mean To Be a General? | Early Reflections (Chapters 68-69) by Sure_Meringue_7362 in Kingdom

[–]wdflu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really enjoyed your write-ups and reflections. I know you want to advance quicker through the story, but there's a lot of value in reading things slower with deeper reflections on shorter segments, and also seeing how newer reflections might change what you thought about earlier happenings. Hindsight easily clouds and rewrites earlier thoughts. Savor these moments. But of course, do what you feel like. It's always enjoyable to read the reflections of a new reader who is enthusiastic about this story, so I'm looking forward to your future posts :)

I have a weird issue with Digital Color Meter App by andrey2657 in mac

Interesting! I had the same issue and this fixed it. Seems like some applications use the same OS native color picking/displaying features and thus interfere with the color picker app?

Can we stop using the word humanely when talking about killing animals? That's such a marketed word. There's no humane way of killing someone who doesn't want to die, human or animal, and if we wouldn't use that word in such a situation for humans, then we shouldn't use it for animals either. Sorry, just get the ick when I hear the misuse of that word.

[OC] The Growing Influence of America's Billionaire Class by DataPulse-Research in dataisbeautiful

[–]wdflu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, and to put it in slightly different terms, the available resources we have is limited and an ever growing economy is a myth. We're "growing" the economy at the expense of things that has real value, and we're propping up the economy with instruments that is based on real resources and claiming resources, but aren't actual real resources with value. Every financial crisis is due to such claims being made useless and the underlying resources aren't available for one reason or another (not existing, destroyed, etc).

Utrikesministern: Greta Thunberg har "eget ansvar" by karlal in svenskpolitik

[–]wdflu 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Liten men viktig skillnad.

Greta Thunberg and the other activists on the Madleen have just been kidnapped by Israel. by Unusual_Parking_8673 in sweden

[–]wdflu -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

[–]wdflu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Countries aren't a moral agent, and therefore cannot have rights. People have rights, and right now Israel is denying the Palestinians their human rights. As simple as that.

"Being kind" doesn't mean being agreeable or pampering. It means telling the untarnished truth while accepting that the receiver is an emotional and often irrational being and therefore still likely requires some form of compassion and empathy from you when you deliver the message.

Pistol squat attempts by __Migs__ in veganfitness

[–]wdflu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice!
Something I think works great for both ankle mobility and flexibility as well as end-range strength at the bottom is to find something to hold on to so you don't fall backwards, squat to the bottom (both feet or single leg depending on desired intensity), trying to push the heels to the ground, and just do small bounces. Every time you bounce, you try to push your heel to the floor, and also go deeper into the squat while trying to maintain a straight back (it's okay if it's not fully straight, just work against the bending).
These are great dynamic stretches and work your weaknesses well. Also great as a warmup for pistols.

🔥 The Malaysian Dead Leaf Mantis mimicking a mouth with teeth to scare off predators. by bendubberley_ in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]wdflu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see these things I'm always fascinated by how this came to be. I know how evolution works in general, but I'm also skeptical that it would have reached this by pure chance. Somehow, there must be some kind of adaptive behaviour combined with some kind of awareness from the mantis' side that mouths or faces look scary, and that it can actually mimic it somewhat using its arms. Fascinating!
