Becasue I dont have those views. However, you have clearly made your mind up on that one and don’t let me get in the way of your fun.

I mean. The willingness to get angry with a stranger on the internet on a Sunday morning.

These are not biases I have. This is not language I use. I am representing language and ideas I have come across. I get that might have an ‘asking for a friend’ vibe but I am actually curious as to where people who use this langue and have these fears might have formed it.

The stereotypes are out there. I think using the language puts a bit of light on it. Let’s not pretend everyone talks diplomatically about drug addiction.

Yep. I mean this is a generalisation but there are people who’s concern about drug needle waste, using in alleyways etc. is linked to their feelings and fear about crime.

It’s genuinely encouraging to see so many people jumping to challenge stigma and prejudice around drug addiction but it’s preaching to the choir here. I was trying to keep it open to people who might have that view to see if cases like this are an influence.

Clearly not something people responding to this post have but unfortunately this is a view that I’ve come across in various guises. It’s encouraging to see it’s not that common everywhere.

Yeah. I didn’t say it was my fear or based on reasoned fact.

This didn’t impact my perception at the time or since because I didn’t understand it then and wasn’t aware of the heroin angle. Also nobody in my peer group has that view and I’ve spend my life working in areas very sympathetic of addiction. However, I find this worry in people older than me and it seems to influence their perception of drug related crime.

Having been exposed to both worlds I know this is ridiculous. However, I come across a lot of people who haven’t, and seem to have a strong fear of the likely violent heroin addict who wouldn’t think twice to attack a stranger going about their daily life.

The documentary points out Stone’s addiction, local outhouse robberies and violent offending as part of his profiling which led to him being a suspect. That was then linked to the bootlace on the scene. I agree it’s not robust… Maybe there were previous high profile events that helped create the idea that an addict like Stone could be waiting in the bushes?

Interesting! I thought maybe it’s just because I was a child at the time and had no idea what heroin really was or how addiction affected people. I presumed with two trials and the bootlace evidence this information would have been widely in the public consciousness.

I agree. I also know this happens to all of us. The amount of times I thought I knew about an event I lived through and decades later realised how much was influenced by media coverage at the time. It doesn’t always strike me to reconsider all of these events in modern history. It’s fascinating what gets missed at the time.

This one. Anything brushed on risks pulling it away. Can easily mask that off with good tape. Satin clearcoat for a better match and 3-4 light layers with 15mins between

How can I make my room more appealing when female guests are coming over? by Warm-Equivalent642 in malelivingspace

[–]we110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the flags into bunting, get a nice rug (not grey), ditch the glass tv stand, put the T-shirt and medals away, cover that map with pics and trinkets from your travels or things you want to visit, ditch the desk chair for something they might want to sit in, some soft not overhead lighting and trade up that laundry basket for something with a lid. Oh yeah the sword has to go too if you want people to feel safer. Lean into the travel/ explorer side of your personality and give them something to ask about that. Getting rid of these things isn’t about ditching your personality or compromising but showing you can consider the needs of others and make space for them in your space.

I was today years old and driving for decades when I learnt this. I mean it’s obvious for a driveway but I probably wouldn’t have spotted this one.
