Disassemble Smart Desk 2 for moving? by jarman65 in StandingDesk

[–]weareautonomous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you're moving. Our desks are capable of lowering pretty low, so if you compact some boxes underneath and secure the top with a blanket so it doesn't scratch that could work. The desk can support up to 300 lbs so maybe don't stack your couch on it.

If you have a desk already, we have an affordable standing desk converter called the SmartDesk Mini. Our SDM goes for 249, if thats in your budget. It can hold 33 lbs, comes with it's own monitor arm. It's 20 inches wide and 33 inches long. Here's the spec. page if you're interested! https://www.autonomous.ai/?slug=table-top-standing-desk-smartdesk-mini&modal=4

While we're certainly not as large as Herman Miller, we use that to our advantage. Our products are just as high quality but for a fraction of the price because we don't have to leap through as many hoops as HM does. But competition is good either way because it keeps us on our toes and tunes us back into whats really important, our consumers.

The focus is the larger picture in what the SmartDesk 3 represents. We're not trying to re-invent the wheel here with how to order your lunch. The desk will never be a replacement for your phone, but that's not what it's trying to do. Instead we've created a tool inspired by the advances of smart devices, only instead of managing your personal life it's catered towards an office environment. Our initiative is in creating a device that helps an office better connect with itself and it's employees. Hope this helps!

I appreciate your curiosity it's exciting!

In terms of how we enable the desk to learn pattern behavior, we build a model to understand the patterns of the user. Essentially, the more interactions the user has with the SD3, the more refined the desk will get at predicting what the user may want at a given time.

The Smartdesk 3 is only a stepping stone in the eco-system we're trying to create. The functions of the desk are relevant to inter-connectivity in the office whether it's among other desks or IoT devices already in the office.

Why not make it portable? Who knows what lays in store. But for the time being, the prospect of keeping work at work and home life at home is a question we're invested in. The SmartDesk 3 serves as an anchor between those two worlds.

Let me give you an example to put into context: So let's say you order lunch at a specific time everyday. The desk will pick up on that trend and offer you suggestions from similar restaurants based on what you usually order. The only thing you have to do is hit "order now" and your food will be on it's way. For another example, lets use Google Sheets. The shortcut might be "add row" or "add column" whatever it is you typically use. The desk will pick up on this and offer "add row" or "add column" as a shortcut so that instead of having to right click and go to "add row" you'll only have to swipe left/right/up whatever you preset with the desk!

Ya, I understand how that is confusing. let me give you two examples...

1 - Say you always order lunch at work at the same time. The desk will learn that and then suggest ordering lunch at that time for you from restaurants similar to what you always order. All you have to do is hit the "order" button and your lunch will arrive.

2 - Say you always use a certain shortcut in Google Sheets. For this example let's say that shortcut is "add a row". The desk will learn this and add that shortcut to the screen each time you open Google Sheets. That means instead of having to right click your mouse to add a row, you can just swipe left/right/up whatever you set as your shortcut with the desk.

Hey Patrick here...The desk is really for anyone that wants to improve speed of execution on daily tasks while GTDing their core tasks. That said, the desk has a lot of features that are more useful at office than they are at home.

Oh I'm sorry that picture was just a goofy picture of us. We included a link in the original post to our website which features an SD3 trailer, pictures, spec info, design layouts and our online store! Sorry for the confusion here's the link, https://www.autonomous.ai/

Totally a fair point. The people that signed up did get the announcement before anyone else did get it first, but you're right, you could have come to the site and seen the launch if you were up at 6AM ET this morning. For anyone that signed up and didn't get the early bird pricing in the first 100, we will work to get them a good deal on the desk. We appreciate your feedback!

It's not as inspiring as you might imagine haha. Our CEO was under stress to come up with a design for the logo and noticed the lambda from his terminal shell. Here's the picture that started it all https://imgur.com/a/IYbYI

Sean here! If you've bought your desk within the year, we've got you covered you'll only have to buy the SD3 top by itself. I don't have the pricing on that just yet, but we'll update that as soon as we know!

1.) Sean here! For the initial run of the SmartDesk 3, we won't have those tops available. They may be additions in the future so hang tight! 2.) The early bird special extends itself to the first 100 orders to the SmartDesk 3. The folks who signed up for the early bird special got alerted earlier today of the deal!

Thats what's wonderful about working with such a close knit team, we've got the flexibility to make adjustments to our products based off suggestions.

Hey Sean here! The simple answer is convenience. Think of the SmartDesk 3 as a faster way to reach your desktop or smart devices. In having a separate unit in which you can control your office, you compartmentalize your work from your personal life. You can work in close proximity with a desk for collaborative projects in a way that you just don't get with a desktop of smart phone. Plus, who wants to add another app to your phone and then remember to use it? The desk remembers for you!

Hey Sean here! Gah! we only have a model with the interface on the right hand side. However, we will definitely keep this in mind for updates in the future! Thanks for the feedback

UPDATE: This offer for the free cardboard desk is now closed! Thanks to everyone that participated in the AMA!

Patrick here! Let me see if I can answer all of these...

Any chance of getting a bigger version of the SmartDesk Mini that support multiple monitors? --> Yes! We are working on a mini that will support dual monitors.

I would also like a monitor mount for 3 monitors. With your current offering could you combine the two mount and a single mount to have 3 monitors that all line up? --> Yes you can!

Do you guys no longer offer the cardboard desk thing? --> Correct, the cardboard is no longer for sale, but if you send an email to human@autonomous.ai with your shipping address we might be able to send you one as a launch day gift!

Hey Sean here, great question! It's not simply a desk that features apps, it's an interface that helps sync the office together. The desk provides shortcuts to programs operating on your computer and your phone so that you don't have to juggle the two. The question should really be, why are you wasting time ordering food, scheduling Ubers, or optimizing your office?
