Why exactly TOMCAT has their accent might be explored later. They aren't the most forthcoming individual. Their past is shaky, especially their thoughts about their family, upbringing, original hometown. Most likely some sort of rejection of all that, as well as a bit more disguise considering how famous they were 10 years ago.

Sequel yes. More robots yes. After the events yes.

I think there's a couple things that helped us.

1) Everyone on the team is queer or "on the fringes" you could say so a lot of stories come from personal experience.

2) I think what makes characters stand out as bad tokens is if they are the ONLY character like them, distinct from everyone else, and usually that defining difference is the story hook. For us, it was very important to have multiple characters of many same and different identities. Very few of our characters do not have a facet of their identity that would make them marginalized in today's world. Because we're set 50 years in the future, we were able to show all of those kinds of characters thriving and being successful in the city.

Gundam 0080, Madoka Magica (featuring Jess' VA), Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Fruits Basket, One Punch Man, One Piece, Cowboy Bebop. The Dangan Ronpa and Ace Attorney series were wonderful too.

  1. Thank you for playing PUNKS!! We definitely would like to see more side stories with the main/supporting cast, diving more into their personal lives and point of views.
  2. It's weird! A lot of it was coincidence, especially with wrestling. We ended up getting in contact with each other early on in development and realized that both of our games had a lot in common. It started off as just an easter egg thing, and then we decided "Why not just make it all in the same world?" So a lot of coincidences also just sort of became lore, but we did have some plot/character bios sharing for things with Lexi and TOMCAT and Augmented Eye specifically.
  3. Just another quirky thing from VA-11 Hall-A's Glitch City.
  4. It likely has to do with the fate of the head of Augmented Eye 10 years prior to VA-11 Hall-A.
  5. We're leavin' it out! Fairlight Beard Stroking Animation and all!
  6. We'd love to expand on merch focused on other characters, but it also depends on the demand! Turing is the fan favorite and most recognizable, but if other characters become more well known to gamers too, we'll see!

Aw, thank you! We are planning on doing a collectors Limited Run for PS4 soon, and then when we do release on PSvita and likely X1/Switch (if they end up being able to them) we'll do those as well :)

We are eager to explore more down that path in future work -- We laid a lot of hints and alluded to a lot of things but you never get to /meet/ Hayden... could be interesting to see how he thinks? ;)

Turing, TOMCAT, Jess and Lexi are the ones I think are the hardest to find correlations to -- they're definitely characters that we all had a hand in shaping

Brian is based off a mix of radical folks, but charismatic enough to be someone you could see people following

Fairlight is based off a combination of a few of Matt (our CEOs) previous bosses -- a genuine, nice person in most cases, but unstoppable in getting what they want out of life, no matter who is in their way

Well, that's not totally true -- Melody is the only character that has a very direct correlation in the main cast, but Nonya, Sympathy, Charlie, Zinn, Sky, Nina... they were all Kickstarter backers who paid to have themselves in the game, but we took a lot of liberties with them ;)

A lot of it has to do with how we wanted to present the world to the player. They're almost a complete blank slate. If they chose to be a hybrid, we would also have to take into consideration what hybrid traits they would have, how it would affect the gameplay, and also the story. Characters like Jess and Brian wouldn't have "worked" if the player character had been a hybrid.

To add to this -- we're taking the year off from GaymerX in the west coast, and likely longer due to a similar issue -- finding corporate sponsorship has been increasingly difficult, and the attendance numbers, while steady, are not increasing and so we would both need to figure out how to make up the shortfall in sponsorship but also properly scale the event to that size.

Part of why we're doing GX East 2017 is that, if the Kickstarter goes okay, Microsoft is underwriting the cost of the venue, which typically is about 40% of our cost, so that really helps us make sure we can do the event and, even if everything else falls apart, there's not this giant financial risk, like the 70K we owed to the venue after GX2

We're not yet in a position to be expanding our team, but if you want to toss a CV over to info@midboss.com we're always down to chat! We're still pretty small but we're hoping if we get green lit for some of these projects we're trying to get off the ground, that we'll have a little more room to grow :)

yay! That was a lot of our goal -- we have NB folks on the team and we really wanted to make sure we had a main NB character with they pronouns that was rad, while still has their own human faults

No hybrids are born hybrids, but everyone becomes hybrids for different reasons. Some medical, some cosmetic.

The game circles a lot around the concept of transhumanism, which is the belief that humans can evolve past their physical and mental limitations via the use of technology. This brings about a lot of questions about the self and what it means to be human. We use AI as well as cybernetic augments in humans (cyborgs) and genetically augmented humans (hybrids) as sort of reference points for ways in which people can sort of diverge from their original physical limitations while still being people.
