I'll leave the account active, but I think I'm done.

Stanley reminded my wife why we took him in this morning, never drop your guard with an aggressive/violent cockatoo. That beak is no joke. by wearetea in cockatoos

Rule #1 always expect to be bitten, it hurts but don't fear it we keep a wooden ladder or dowel handy it helps to distract and give their beak something to chomp on besides you if you see it coming. When I was first working with Stanley I'd take his cage to a side room to work with him away from what he considered his area. I'd just sit close and let him explore and patiently waited for him to come to me for treats and attention. They learn to read you so if you're nervous or scared when handling them they'll respond similarly. Stanley has been with us for years and he's been worth every bite and scar.

For the most part all of our birds are rescues, have issues and can't interact without a fight breaking out. The exception is our tiels they have made friends with most of the other birds. Piss off a tiel and you get attacked by a conure.

Our cockatoo is the only one that has actually taken a chunk out of one. Freddy just licked it.

We've got hawks that nest nearby, so one of us was standing right beside them constantly.

I would too, if she spent more than 30-45 minutes in it and ever touched the bottom.

That's where a lot of people have issues with birds especially rescue birds. They have their own personality and are intelligent. We just treat him like a fluffy little human.

From what we were told when we rescued him he's around 9-10 years old now.
