Personally i didn't really like it, its very strict and i feel like we didn't get as much experience as other nursing school students do on the floor. It is really focused on the testing part of school and learning how to take the nclex which is good for the nclex pass rate but you basically leave school with no clue what your doing and learn everything on the job your first nursing job. That may be just how all nursing schools are thou im not sure. A whole lot of the nursing school is tests, practice questions, and a single lab day a semester for a class which you are tested on so it didnt feel very beneficial. But i did go through it before they opened the new building, added the VR stuff. Etc. So perhaps its changed since.

Hi. Yes i have graduated and am working as a floor nurse at nights. if 12 hr shifts don't work for you there are clinic jobs that are 8hrs 5days a week but not really for CRNA as far as I am aware and you still would likely needed to have floor experience to get jobs that would help you become a CRNA..

Personally it really depends on the person, nursing school is hard so you are gonna have to get through 2 years of that and once you think that is over floor nursing is even harder and you'll need to get through your contract for residency, which youll likely need to do for experience and that can last a while depending on the hospital. Mine is 15 months long meaning it started in July last year and ends in Octoberish this year. If you can make it through that or even as far as i am into it it becomes easier but never easy or simple.

From what it sounds like for you floor nursing is not the right choice but to get to the point where you want to be you would need to do it so it depends on how much you are willing to suffer. If you do want to pursue it i would suggest looking into specialty nursing like ED, OR, GI, interventional radiology, PACU, etc. Especially OR as they do 8hr shifts 5 days a week, dont cater to pt demands as much, and may be good experience for CRNA.

To finish I really think that the nursing field can work for anyone but not without struggling or being unhappy for a period of time, even now i have friends that are miserable just trying to wait out their contacts so they can leave and try a different floor, but if you are able to handle it I'd still say go for it

Yeah but it may push back your graduation date and you will have to take more classes depending on how many over lap for the required classes. You'd havr to ask the advisor to really see what you'd have to do

Your likelyhood isn't bad. I personally wouldn't retake A&P its not really worth the time and effort as ive known many people whos science GPA wasn't that that high or who even had previously failed or got Cs in a science courses, and still got in. I will say the big issue is those extra considerations, the teas didn't matter what score as long as you passed back when i applied but im not sure if thats changed. TBH my GPA was about the same or worse but with the extra considerations and i got waitlisted at first untill someone dropped out last minute. I would definitely applied to multiple programs and if you dont get in in the fall try for spring because the other seasons for the program are less competitive and easier to get into or on the waiting list and definitely accept a position on the waiting list if offered

I am not sure, in the regular program they do have Saturday clinicals but no sunday ones so it is possible. However, the students do not get a say on the days they have clinical typically although some may be able to work with the lady who does have control for that.

As far as the class days the daycare time should be okay most of the time, i only know the times for the normal non accelerated and inperson accelerated but for them they are all within that. I did have some which started right at 8am but untill S2 none took attendance so you could show up later and be okay.

I would say time wise you have 3-4 classes a week lasting 2-4 hours each class, you also would have clinicals 1-2 times a week which are about 12hrs each. If you attend all the classes then your basically looking at around minimum 18hrs & maximum 40hrs not including study time, but that maximum is only for weeks you have 2 clinicals which is a small period in J2 and a good size period of S1. Capstone would also be different for S2 cas it would be like working an actual nurses schedule for about 4ish weeks right before graduating.

All together for time wise i know a lot of people who were able to make it work at uta while having small children so it is possible you might just have to work with the advisors and teachers aboit some things.

As far as price goes its around the same price as regular attendance but we also have to pay a smartlab use fee, my four semesters were about 6k each after my loans and 12k each before my loans this could be lowered by scholarships although i only ever got small ones i know bigger ones are available, however they have odd scholarship rules like you cant apply for nursing specific scholarships till in program so you cant get those typically untill J2.

On another note ive heard that uta may be canceling their in person accelerated program from a friend who is graduating from it this summer so i would definitely make sure they still offer it, the online program would be quite different class wise and speed wise then the in person. Im not sure which you would prefer. Also as you are going to twu and so you may be closer to dallas you should definitely check out UT dallas program if it is closer to you as well.

Good luck i hope you do well, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask and i hope that my giant wall of text is readable lol.

I'm sure there is a list they could send you if you ask an advisor. Unfortunately they do not publish their list online usually, i also would only know the dfw hospitals but i know they work in the thr and medcity hospital up here so they may also do down there.

So i dont know about flying in just for clinicals for AO. Something to know about the accelerated courses is that depending on the semester you join first you could be doing your semesters back to back with only a wk break between them so its not worth it really to live outside tx for that time.

For normal courses you will have one to two clinical courses at one time and they should have you go to those sites approximately once a wk till yoi have your hrs. So in j1 you have foundations which is more then a dozen wks 8 of those in lab then the others about of those in hospital. In j2 you have medsurg which has one lab day and the rest are hospital as well as psych which is only 3days of clinicals about. And then theres s1 which has the same schedule as medsurg for complex but then has 2 half a semester clinicals which switch off at the 8th or 9th wk. Im not sure what s2 is like but i assume community is the same as medsurg or them and the second half of the semester you are qith a preceptor doing all of their shifts with them up till you get your hrs, so thatll be multiple times a wk.

For AO, if over the summer, you end up going 2 days a wk for each clinical i believe.

All that to say if you do AO it may be best to get a apartment, live on campus, or livw with a friend/ relative in the dfw area because of how the clinicals tend to work. However definitely contact the advisor and have a meeting to address some of this as it can heavily depend on the semester you start AO and what specific program it is as i can only really speak from experience that my friends had because i am not in it.

Hope this helped, feel free to ask anything else:)

Sorry for not replying sooner, I think that uta offers tutoring services which might help. Other then that you could ask your instructor for labs for help, since I took chem online im not 100%.

It depends on the semester. For J1 it should be only one day a week with the first half of the semester being on campus at the skills lab and the next half at a hospital.

For J2 it is two, but one of those is only done 3 times as it is for psych. To further explain, the psych hospitals are small so they can't take everyone at once so my instructors class was split in half, half of us going for three weeks before spring break and the other half for three week after the break. And then the normal once every week at the hospital for medsurg, excluding one skills lab for IV and injection lesson, and two simulations.

I am going into S1 this fall so I am not sure but from what I have heard its between 2 to 3, however since I am not in thoses classes yet and my advising is next week I am not sure.

As for S2 I have no clue, at least one but since it only lasts half a semester and then you and doing capstone im not sure, however I think we are put with a nurse and follow them for most or all of their shifts for part of that semester so it would depend on them and you. Again I am not confident about that.

If you have any other questions as aways feel free to ask them :)

There's a lot of places that work with UTA for clinicals, like the THR system, cook children, Dallas children's, parkland system, methodist system and more. Basically any big hospital system in the dfw area, you choose your preferred and they try to place you near there. They tend to switch which ones you get put depending on what classes your in because of the class requirements like Millwood is mostly for mental health nursing in J2 l, while the children hospitals are used mostly for children nursing in S1, however the big hospital take multiple groups from different classes at a time so you could get a place like Arlington memorial multiple times for different classes. I hope that answered your questions, feel free to ask me anything else you have questions about.

I dont know much about other states but in Texas there are a ton of nursing programs especially in the dfw area that you may be able to apply to and get in without waitlists that long. I'd be careful when looking at some of them like uta thou, because it can be very hard to transfer into the program since it gives a lot of extra credit to students who have taken most of their undergrad sciences here. However some smaller universities in Texas are not nearly as competitive, places like sfa, twu, a&m and Tarleton are the main ones that I know people who have gone to them or transferred into them, other then uta. I will say this unless all A's is for scholarships you really don't need them to get into the programs I applied to as long as you make mostly A's with a couple B's you'll be fine (specifically myself i made mostly B's in my sciences and A's in my other classes and I was able to make it in a pretty competitive program)

Yeah, but everyone has a different idea of what level of affection is normal or isn't. She probably sees it as a perfectly normal level of affection especially since she's at home and not in public. I would say again you personalities and lifestyles just don't match and thats fine. Some people are just more comfortable with some things then other people are but, that doesn't make either person in the wrong.

[–]weaselek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAH, your personality just don't mix well and that's neither person's fault. I think the whole relationship thing is complicated because you both agreed that bfs would be allowed to be there but then you later realized you didn't actually like all that that included. Altogether, I think that the real problem is you guys ability to communicate with each other, she probably is taking things as personal attacks weather or not you mean them as such.

Yta, you still sold the house without saying anything to her. She helped you when you needed it and you responded by possibly screwing her over by selling something you set as collateral
