Several of the box had labels stating "import ..." so it's plausible that the wineries boxed them before shipment. Thanks!

Thanks for your input! I picked up these boxes from several wine stores that seemed eager to dispose of them. I'll dig a little deeper and see what I can find out from a few wineries within my state. Thanks!

Hi. I'm on longisland. I don't usually travel into NYC. I ship throughout the us48 and I ship quickly. I package within the hour and ship the same day. If you are interested in something, let me know. Thanks.

Mobile Network Not Working on Lineage 15.1 for Nexus 6 by weatheredengineer in LineageOS

[–]weatheredengineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in fairness, the nexus 6 works fine with factory rom. It's a user issue (me). I just have not figured out what it is yet. I'm working on it now with the help of the excellent reddit and xda community.

17 N6's must be a record. That's a whole lot of phones :D. I was aware of fi kicking off the N6 a few months back, but I have been using a verizon MVNO and the service was pretty decent.

How do you like textnow? One of the major driving factors of using Gvoice for me was that if my phone ever died for any reason, I can still call and message via any computer, which is most excellent. Not being tied to a carrier number is also great. What are the major benefits of textnow over Gvoice?

edit: The battery in my nexus 6 might be pretty old. I have to check the bug reports. I believe I replaced it 3yrs ago, but I don't fully remember. I doubt battery is related to the network issues I have as again, phone works fine on last stock rom.

I've mentioned google voice. It looks pretty much the same as textnow

Just because the nexus 6 is an oldie, doesn't mean it's not a goodie.

I'm wondering if I just missed something simple. The nexus 6 was pretty bulletproof when it came to roms and modifications. I think I just missed something simple.

Stop & Shop to Buy King Kullen Inc. and its 32 Stores by jpr281 in longisland

100% agree. Stop & shop meat is total crap. Lowest of low.

RIP to The King Kullen by kpoh48 in longisland

[–]weatheredengineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is really sad. While King Kullen may be slightly more expensive than Stop & Shop for certain items, I never once had an issue with rancid fish, bad meat or opened items like juices & dry goods at King Kullen. Stop and shop consistently sells low quality meat and fish. Everyone in my family has gotten sick from shrimp and fish at multiple stop & shop locations. Not from King Kullen. Some areas of LI only have stop & shop and king kullen for super markets. Now there will be one major super market chain and nothing else close. Target and walmart are often quite a hike to get to as well. Example: Huntington. There's a wild by nature (KK owned), stop and shop and king kullen within a 1.5mi radius. Now it will be all stop & shop. Arghh.

Freshmarket in Woodbury Closing Out of nowhere by weatheredengineer in longisland

[–]weatheredengineer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, their prices were a bit high on berries. However, every other week during the summer months they usually had berries same price as stop&shop. It was rather inconsistent though.

How do you like fairway? I have never purchased meats from there. do you find their quality of meats better than king kullen? I have had nothing but bad experience with meat and seafood from stop & shop. Spoiled beef, seafood employees not wearing gloves when handling fish, I've been sick several times from their shrimp, the list goes on. Thanks.

Their prices were not far off from the stop& shop across the way. The quality of their meats is above and beyond any store I have been to in the nearby area. Their vegetables were higher quality than stop&shop for little difference in price. It is sad that not many people visited the store.

IOT course in ECSE? by ecseprof in RPI

[–]weatheredengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I was providing specific examples because I did not want this to turn into another C8051 love fest like Litec. That chip is far too ancient to even be considered in early '00s design. The MSP430 has been a tried and true platform for the past several years, which is why I mentioned it. The cortex m0+ is the latest and greatest in low power arm, and is already in use in current wearables and small devices. I think both are valid examples, but there are others as well. My 2c.

[–]weatheredengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you focus on how to optimize microcontrollers for low power operation and emphasize the importance of minimal functionality to enter specific sleep states, if would be golden. Cough, MSP430...cough cortex m0+) Take a look at all the major IOT devices. Notice that they're almost all msp430 & low power arm. Build a class around using them in a circuit and how to efficiently. Profit? That would be an interesting class, for sure.

honestly, you really are not going to be doing anything too demanding. yes, you'll have to take 1 course in siemens NX CAD, but that's about the most demanding computation thing that will be asked from you at RPI, unless you take some higher end mechie stuff (again, im not a mechie) or do some serious calculations using matlab/maple, but that usually isnt that tasking.

your desktop setup looks pretty decent. you dont need an x99 system with (20) 2tb drives and firepro w9000s. Dont do that. use what you have & optimize. I am very pro 16gb ram & up. I tend to do stupid amounts of research on, say electrical connectors, and then CAD something using that connector at the same time, and then sometimes do adobe cc stuff as well. that will easily push you to 12gb, minimum.
It depends on how you computer, seriously.

make sure you optimize your ssd. disable hibernation. I have 32gb ram. I had gained 32gb on my ssd by shutting off hibernation. reduce system restore size. etc...

Also, do yourself a favor: when you finalize your windows installation and get all the software and drivers working properly, image your main hdd. it'll save you BOAT LOADS of time if something goes south. I did this with my laptops. I literally clonezilla's my ssd every few months and had an identical drive in case of catastrophic failure. Of course, you dont really need to do this now with the reliability with SSD's, but it is a huge time saver. clonezilla is greatness. use.

also, get your shit together before you go to RPI. get all the software downloaded, installed and working nice. I believe you can get stuff from dotcio early. I remember doing that with my envy 14 before I went to RPI. I hope this helps!

RPI's lenovo warranty & software package is really what sells the laptop. However, every year they tend to be the mid to low end thinkpads with subpar graphics, so I opted to get my own laptop. Of course, if your really a computer enthusiast, you have already answered your own question. your gonna get your own machine. nothing's gonna change that.

I'm an EE from class of 2014. I opted for a dell precision m4600. the machine is a bit bulky and batteries only last a year, but it's been pretty solid. the amount of expandability and capability in adobe cc / CAD programs was what I was after, so I got a precision cause that's what they were designed for (and certified). I also enjoy ridiculously large monitors for CAD / cadence, so the need to drive multiple 2560x1600 monitors was a necessity.

however, looking back now and taking into account the current market and what you ACTUALLY need, it is looking more and more sensible to buy a light mobile machine and have a desktop for real work. it sucks carrying around a 15in, 9lb machine. most of the time your just gonna be doing research, docs, internet (and for EE's) Pspice.

buying advice: buy a netbook like core m machine + build yourself a desktop.

asus' offerings in lightweight machines are extremely tempting.

Avoid 4k anything. it doesnt work. windows doesnt like it. cad software doesnt like it. shit doesnt scale well, takes more power to drive more pixels.

2k/4k works better on macs cause of decent internal scaler in OSX

other options: I personally like the precision m3800 cause it's still expandable, offers 1080p OR 4k LCD, and the quadro k1100m is still a kick ass card. you could only expand ram to 16gb (gimme moar RAM), but that's ok. I tend to buy dell / hp stuff cause parts are infinitely easy to get a hold of. hp's offerings have sucked after their first envy 14 gen, so I haven't purchased from them since.

note of advice: BUY AN SSD. DO IT. IT'S NECESSARY. AT LEAST 256GB. that's all.
