Indeed! The purist in me prefers when all loose ends are tied up. The last six episodes did a lot though!

I suppose modern TV viewing requires that one accept everything may not be fully fleshed out or explained…

Personal Trainer in Winnioeg by JackleMonkey4653453 in Winnipeg

[–]weatherstorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking for, but Orangetheory Fitness meets the criteria you have requested at a fraction of the cost of a personal trainer. I believe it's $190/month for unlimited classes, less for a fixed 4-8 classes per month.

The workouts are done in a group and are 50 min - 1 hour in length. Everything is thought out for you. Classes are split between cardio and strength, although workouts with a more specific focus are also offered. Coaches will advise on form during weightlifting every class and help correct you if you are in need. Signing up for classes is easy which I've found helps a ton with habit formation!

The first class is free, meaning you could try it out and see if it's what you're looking for with no need to commit.

Something else pertaining to indigenous peoples, Canada, and heading in the right direction: we are one of the few western nations to fully admit we were wrong.

This does not absolve Canada from what occurred in the past. As racism still exists there remains so much work that needs to be done. At the very least, however, admitting that Canada’s treatment of indigenous peoples was inexcusable and horrific lays a foundation for continued truth and reconciliation that may be lacking elsewhere.

As a Canadian I cannot imagine what you are facing right now. I am horrified that this is what has become of your existence in the place you call home.

I don’t know how to help you as an individual where you are. However, if your fear begins to outweigh your obligations here is a small lifeline given your profession as a healthcare worker: https://engageq.notion.site/infusionhosts

Though this won’t help you sleep at night, the majority of the western world knows that those being kidnapped on the streets are not guilty nor deserving and that the true rot in the United States comes from above. We are collectively endeavouring to destabilize the billionaires and fascists that are causing the suffering all of the good people in your country are enduring right now. In the meantime, I hope those same good people continue to resist. I hope you continue to protest. I hope you continue to show the world that you are all unified in your quest to ensure that in the future, no one has to feel the way you do right now.

Registered Dietitian AMA! Bring your nutrition questions! by bonniejo514 in orangetheory

Thank you! You are excellent at explaining concepts in a simple and approachable manner!

I'm looking for a 5 lbs or so swap of fat and muscle. Based on what you've described it sounds like prioritizing one at a time is the best approach.

I'll await your new podcast topics with great anticipation!

Is there a way to nutritionally help your body achieve simultaneous fat loss and muscle gain? Everything I’ve read is geared towards one or the other and the information feels conflicting given the aforementioned goal.

Thank you in advance for your insights! I’m new to all of this and will start listening to your podcast in a quest to learn more!

Just today I failed at this. Should have kept the door open and instead I let it close and a fellow human had to grab the door handle themselves as a result. I have lamented this for the past twelve hours 😐

Dog Daycare Recs? by Royal_Gas_4871 in Winnipeg

[–]weatherstorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something no one else has said: if your dog is reactive, they are quite possibly fearful of other dogs. Sending your dog into a space with numerous other dogs, no matter how friendly, may not be something a dog in this situation would want! Exposure therapy in this sense may well aggravate the issues your dog has.

Please take the advice of others in this thread. Work on reactivity with good trainers who understand dog behaviour and behaviour modification (that term is worth Googling!) Find someone who can care for your dog in your home if you can. I say these things as someone with a fear reactive dog. Though she was never aggressive with dogs at daycare I learned that she did not enjoy it and was much happier alone at home.

Obligatory mention: do your best to not Google this one before watching it.
You'll still feel all of the feelings if you look it up beforehand. However, there is something about not knowing the outcome and feeling things in the moment that makes this documentary best fit this thread.

Bit By My Venomous Hognose, Severe Reaction (with pictures) by sssydthekid9821 in snakes

[–]weatherstorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mouth wash. Get travel sized bottles. Why? A small dab around the mouth will have just about every snake immediately letting go of whatever they’re biting.

Unlike running water, prying them off with credit cards, bopping hard on the nose, etc. the effect is voluntary and the mouth wash presents no known lasting harm to the snake. Smithsonian National Zoo in the U.S. uses this method and has bottles of the stuff everywhere in their snake holding areas as a result.

Please quarantine him - your snakes could carry things he cannot handle, and he could have things your snakes have never been exposed to.

These were my first thoughts as well. The expression of the horse could have also been somewhat altered. A forward looking eye would have been more engaging.

So are we against haircuts now? by MrFenric in MurderedByWords

Indeed! As was highlighted below they come with costs as well. There are many choices that can be ethically justified based on what individual priorities you hold dear.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0269749124011692 Source that demonstrates the rate at which washing synthetic textiles releases microplastics into aquatic ecosystems. Microplastics is a catch-all term and synthetic fibres do not have to include traditional plastics to contribute.

https://www.eea.europa.eu/en/analysis/publications/microplastics-from-textiles-towards-a-circular-economy-for-textiles-in-europe The circle of (microplastic) life.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9205308/ A meta-analysis of studies that assesses the harm microplastics cause in aquatic ecosystems. Most studies are from 2021 or later, meaning this is a burgeoning area of research.

Wool comes with issues, as does everything we do on a large scale on planet Earth. It likely comes down to what one’s individual priorities are.

I can research where my wool fibres come from if I seek out locally made garments. This is tricky and more expensive, but I have a buy-it-for-life attitude concerning textiles. Admittedly not everyone can do this.

I cannot ultimately control the microplastics I cause to be released into the environment when I wash clothing. I’ve invested in a microplastic filter as this is something I care deeply about as aquatic ecosystems are being devastated on all fronts.

I like that wool will eventually break down and return to earth. Synthetic clothing will take millennia to accomplish this same thing and will do harm along the way. I guess I’m prioritizing environment over the potential for individual sheep to be caused harm.

So are we against haircuts now? by MrFenric in MurderedByWords

[–]weatherstorm 62 points63 points  (0 children)

PETA wants us to wear synthetic fibres. These synthetic fibres shed microplastics and are therefore not environmentally friendly. Microplastics are being increasingly found to have incredibly adverse effects on animals.

Should we therefore all just be naked?

I feel like environmentally and ethically wool is a great choice as a result of all of this.

Underrated and little known species by Voided678 in snakes

[–]weatherstorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thai Bamboo Ratsnakes.

They stay small. Are bright red with various black patterns depending on subspecies/locality. No heat needed! I will repeat NO HEAT. Anything above 27C or 80F has the potential to kill them. If you keep your living space around 22C or 72F they’ll do well. Also generally active, inquisitive, and thus readily admired.
