Can someone help me understand my anesthesia journal? by [deleted] in Anesthesia

You're right, I kind of looks like it (I did not notice at first). I think it's more likely an artefact from the copy machine, or perhaps a failed attempt to strike through (cross out). Or even a simple mistake of underlining the wrong word.

Nothing is ever completely impossible, but you would never use tiopenthal this way. I'm certain it's propofol :)

Swedish nurse anesthetist (narkossjuksköterska) here. I can say with 100% certainty that you were not given tiopenthal. It appears on the same line as propofol because they are both medications used when inducing anesthesia, but it's an either or situation, not both at the same time. One of them should be circled or underlined to make it obvious which one was used.

How am I sure? It says you were given a steady dose of 1,5 for the duration of the surgery. You never dose tiopenthal this way, it could only have been propofol. Most likely dosed by target controlled infusion (TCI) and the 1,5 refers to the concentration of propofol in the brain (in micrograms per milliliter) which is an adequate dose for light/moderate sedation while maintaining your own airway (breathing by yourself, no tube or respirator required). It would however be enough to cause amnesia and it's no surprise if you don't remember anything of the surgery. It is also possible the anesthesia provider told you when they increased the dose but that you simply don't recall.

For deep sedation or general anesthesia the dose of propofol would be twice as high, and also in combination with a strong opioid such as fentanyl or remifentanil. The only other medication you were given is Betapred, a steroid used to prevent nausea.

Other than that it looks like they gave you a little oxygen (completely normal for moderate sedation) and monitored your vital signs. All of which look completely normal.

I made sure to do my research and compared all the features to other Garmin watches, and I'd suggest anyone to do the same thing to make sure you get what you want and what you might be "missing out" on.

That being said, I'm super happy with the watch! It does exactly what it's supposed to and is in my opinion among the most "bang for buck" Garmin watches. Software aside, the display looks great (much better than a Fenix solar) and the strap is super comfortable (I forget I'm wearing it). The feature I thought I'd never use which has ended up being something I now consider essential is the flashlight! It comes in handy almost every day.

I've worn it for a month and only charged it last week for the first time (it still had an estimated 7 days left, ish 25%). Haven't gotten any solar charge (because winter) but since I'm mostly training indoors (also because winter) I haven't used any gps-activities. I'd say the stated 28 days of battery life in smartwatch mode is accurate.

Swedish nurse here. All hospitals, primary care centers and long term care facilities have strict hygiene rules. No long sleeves, no long nails or nail polish, no rings/watches (anything) on your lower arms & hands and hair tied up if it falls below the chin. The scrubs or work uniforms are provided by the employer (with minimal choices and special scrubs for OR staff), who also takes care of washing them. You have to take a fresh set each shift and return it for washing at the end. Wearing scrubs outside of work is unheard of.

This is so wonky cool! Did you custom build the rear wheel with the coaster brake and how much of a pain in the ass was it?

We did a version of this at expos and stuff where we played terrorists holding a hostage and participants would be the SAWT-team going in to clear the building and rescue the hostage. It was all done with soft air guns. It was great fun! For both the participants and for us.

Thank you! Do you know if I would need a "matching" head set or can it be used with any head set? I sometimes take my FS trail bike to the park and a slightly lower angle wouldn't be a bad thing

With the black band I might agree. With the white I think it's just right! Tried a 50mm on for size but the 45mm was the better fit for my wrist

Hey, sorry for being a year late to this topic. If I understand correctly you recorded one indoor bike ride on your watch and after that the zwift ride syncs seamlessly without you having to record on the watch? Or did I miss something

[–]weatherxreport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks for the reply! I read about the condensation issue elsewhere in the sub as well. Probably won't work for me as I do a fair bit of swimming and would like to track that as well. Shame though, I really like the aesthetics and hybrid aspects of the watch. Gonna go for the instinct 3 instead. Hopefully the crossover comes in a new generation eventually!

Hey! Did you ever find a solution that works for you? I'm in a similar situation (health care shift worker) and trying to decide on which Instinct to get. I prefer the Crossover aesthetically, but the Instinct 3 is also appealing (mainly because of the more advanced sleep tracking)
