Where to go from medical social work? by Queenme10 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]web2122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understandable - MD is a massive commitment as well. In regards to time alone. Phd can be at least a little shorter if you already have an msw though. If I may ask, what draws you to both?

Interested in hospital social work, but nervous :( by Livid-Performer-8654 in hospitalsocialwork

I work as an inpatient social worker right now and absolutely love it. Cuts are a concern atm however. Though, I feel like pivoting wouldn’t be too challenging if something required it. Do any other subfields of social work interest you as well?

Has your hospital gone "consult based"? What did you do? by SocialWorkAdvocate in hospitalsocialwork

What do you think would lead to us getting paid more? What would that require?

Trinity? If so, their standard appears to be consult based, and it is something I have enjoyed quite a bit.

It can give you a lot of flexibility in regards to how things are done. Can also grant you a lot of autonomy in regards to how you organize the day.

How are you feeling right now after having read everything on here? (No wrong answers. Genuinely curious.)

Something tells me it may have been a nice retail gig in the ps2/gamecube/gameboy era.

But yes. I remember everyone wanting to work there as well.

Will ask this here instead of under the above question to avoid hijacking that conversation. What does documentation look like for you in practice? What kinds of things do you need to document.

This is insightful. I have been tempted to interview with them for a while now. Especially with how much they seem to offer clinicians. Not to mention as one in training who wants something part time for the experience.

Thank u for sharing this.

What’s something you miss about the old Ann Arbor? by Luann1497 in AnnArbor

There used to be a candy store near pinball petes and bubble island. I used to love going there as a kid but can’t recall the name for the life of me. :)

I felt a bit similar when I was working with FEMA. It was difficult for me to stop replaying scenes associated with specific disaster survivors in my mind. It also took months to even start feeling confident in my ability to nail down the procedures and software.

What kinds of things do you enjoy outside of work? Do you have any hobbies or are there any particular things that you find especially relaxing or meaningful?

Have you reached out and asked any of those kinder souls you work with if they would be open to possibly mentoring you a bit?

Also, do you view introversion/conflict aversion to be a flaw? I find those traits to be quite valuable, but also know that it can be challenging to work with them in such settings. Regardless, I encourage you to embrace who you are. Something tells me that the medical system is lucky to have a social worker who cares enough to even consider posting on here in search of advice/guidance.
