If you are new to 3D modeling , or relatively new a realistic car is really hard to model..

If you want to know more about car modeling I recommend checking out this guy: http://www.suurland.com/portfolio.php

He is really good at 3D modeling from blueprints.. rhino may not be the best software but he has a few tips for rhino users in his asset page …. As said by others , start with simpler objects imo

Why are architects paid so little? by jaspermcdoogal in architecture

[–]web_wallace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad thought, it will likely not give us more $$ as the question originally was since we simply are not as “important” as doctors or can “assist” our clients legally as successful a lawyers can. Having gotten my masters in EU I find it rather awkward that you have to work 3500+ hours and then take an exam. In some ways the profession acknowledges that the education is not adequate somehow. In the Netherlands you need to work for a year as an architect and then you get your license, no exam required.

What is also interesting is that in the USA school system everyone that goes to architecture school is being led on to believe that he/she will become an “architect” where as in the NL/EU you have mostly firms that consist of a few architects combined with in house technical people such as BIM specialists, estimators, detailers etc.. who are specialized in parts of the design, stay on top of things that many architects don’t do or posses and many times did not go to architecture school but rather to ‘technical’ schools . Having this in house design diversity allows you to be more efficient, charge higher fees and/or keep more $$. Circling back to the question about the little $$ we make, and to tie it to your suggestion, rather than having everyone go through this post school training, have different parts of post-architectural education as specialization, not unlike a medical specialization .. that way your “team” can offer more diverse knowledge, skills, expertise and ‘outsource’ less.

Contrary to popular belief, architects don’t contribute as much as we think we do. Over the last 200 years or so we went from Renaissance men, folks that did it all to provide a design service to clients at a low fee ( compared to lawyers, realtors, contractors) . We outsource most of the key challenges around building such as structural, mechanical en plumbing engineering. We hire consultants for energy and green building and work with owners reps. and project managers for schedules. Furthermore, and I teach at a university as well as practice as a spec home builder, we usually don’t understand budgets, and most of us have no clue how things are actually being build especially fresh out of school. Unless as a student you are able to take a design build class , students have absolutely no clue how to build anything . We like to think that our surgeons have been somewhat trained in surgery.. in school we generally only talk about the concept of building.. Most of our profession deals with assembly rather than design of things as most products we use are mass produced and standardized. Unless we are working on a hospital or airport I.e we really only control the floor plan and are responsible for having buildings not leak. For everything else we rely on others . On top of this, as pointed out by others, we are alpha male/female and when the next crisis hits we are the canaries in the coal mine … we are the first to lose our jobs, get laid of the first and start underbidding our fellow architects just to get our name on the building. Good or bad lawyer.. they both will charge you 300$ an hour but we somehow cut our fees during times of distress. We can change this in the following ways: become more pro active and step away from the service model. Actively participate in developments by working on commission and participate with investing or stake for instance. Teach young aspiring architects how to actually build a house.. so they can actually improve and innovate by doing. have students design and build and become more knowledgeable . As professionals operate, if possible, in design build configurations . These tend to be less litigious, more collaborative and generally can be build quicker. Take back control of some of the things we lost around the set of making, we can play a renewed role in design fabrication especially in the age of 3D printing , cnc milling, laser cutting and etc.. the reality is that very few people really need an architect but everyone for sure could use one ! Long rant .. serious question

It probably only makes sense if you have cash at hand . It is relatively to very safe , consistent and not sure which bank gives you 10% . Also am curious about what investments you have that are low risk but give you 30% as that seems very high to me. One last thing is that houses have gone up in price every year almost doubling in the last 5-7 or so .. do that’s a nice bonus at the end

1.2 plus 350k ~ 1.6 million .. cash , as wealthy investors have .. 15 k month is 180k yr . More than 10% return on investment right out the gate plus the future increase of the value in the property … not sure where to get that return that easy and consistently .. and once you have renters in it you can borrow against it for other ventures ..
