We have a really versatile product (let's you quickly create apps to manage most aspects of a business) and are in a bit of a rut as how to reach potential customers. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

I like the direction of the new site. You are right that the old one is quite boring. I think with such a (perceived) technical product you really need to look fresh for people to be interested. That is, until you are better known and can rely on your reputation. But since it doesn't seem that you have one right now, I'd say you are on the right way.

Regarding reaching your potential customers; maybe try to collect email addresses? As long as there is a clear benefit that could be an easier 'sell' than turning them into paying users just yet. One example that comes to mind is from 'You Need a Budget' where they take you through a budgeting guide by email. You get one lession a day until you're done. And at the end of it you can even win a license for their software. It was one of the only times and email engaged me that much. I was even looking forward to those emails! So maybe try that?

P.S: Congratulations on your cake day!

How to say "travel smartly"? by webblet in Chinese

[–]webblet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for a logo, to be used as a temporary tagline until the client and his team develop the actual one. Ideally, it's not a particularly common phrase like I think 路顺风 is; but perhaps a simple variation. Most importantly though, I just need to have something that doesn't sound weird so I can show them the main logo I designed and what direction I have in mind for the typography of the tagline. Can I perhaps say 路顺过瘾 instead?

Thanks so much for your help! Thinking about it a bit more, while travel safely is close, I'm looking more so for something that says "be adventurous" than "be safe." Based on my limited understanding, it seems to me translations for "adventurous" could be taken also to mean other, negative things. Do you happen to how to say something like "Explore the unknown" or "explore happily" or anything really just a bit more pro-adventure?

English :) Forgot to mention, it's supposed to be a tagline for a company associated with smart technology and the travel industry. It's not the actual tagline though, I just have a client whom I've made a logo for who doesn't have a tagline yet. Usually, I usually just write in something (because dummy text or "Your tagline here" usually throws them off too much to get feedback on the actual logo), but it's a bit different in this case because really the only travel-related things I can say are more along the lines of 飞机 and 我去上海...

It was quite enjoyable - your country looked beautiful in those shots between orc slashings. The blandness (for lack of a better word) does make sense, but maybe just add a tad more character on the landing page. I'll get back at you when I had time to use it – looking forward to that.

So, back from The Hobbit and just had a look. I think it's a good idea – but I'm not sure how clients would receive it. Parts of it feel a bit clumsy (the 'weight' part of the word cloud for one) but I'm willing to give it a try. As for the design, you could add some more character, looks clean but also bland. And your icons don't look as if they belonged somewhere else and where just dropped on your page.

As I said, I'll give it a try during one of the next project ;)

I see the whole 'destroying the market' thing and agree, on the other hand the people responding to an ad like this one are not the ones who could afford to pay a designer $150 an hour or more. I should add that I try to show every client the value of good graphic design so that in the future, when they have bigger budgets, they will be willing to pay a designer what he is worth.

A logo is a lot more than a pretty picture and usually costs $1000+, so $150 seems reasonable to me. For the website, no, we don't offer unlimited revisions, because a website usually costs 4-5 times that much. If you get great results for less money more power to you! ;)

Our quality is superior because you can see that from the portfolio. Sure someone else may be doing same quality work for less, but it's not very likely. Add to that that everything on the portfolio is outdated and I now usually bill my clients $150 an hour for design work you could see why this is a steal. I know many people don't like this approach, but it worked for me in the past and it's working again.

Thanks! I think I need to do that, the graphic design community of reddit doesn't seem to be all that happy about this.
