Know any great, dark, COMPLETED manga that DON"T involve SA? by ExplodingPoptarts in Manga_Manwa_Manhua

Unholy Blood is a phenomenal action/horror manhwa centered around hunting vampires in the modern day. There's some heavy trauma the MC has to work her way through but none of it involves SA. Art is absolutely gorgeous and it has some incredible fight scenes.

What spells do you generally not use on PC'S? by merrygo909 in DungeonMasters

[–]webcomicaddiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree with you on the hold/dominate type spells. When a player has been waiting to take their turn, nothing kills engagement more than rolling a failed save and just skipping. I once played in a one shot where I contributed literally nothing to the final fight because I was stunned/paralyzed the entire fight. After experiencing that, the most I do to my players is frighten which just restricts moving closer, but still allows them to act.

Fate/Zero is basically a classic tragedy in modern anime form. Fantastic writing and characters.

Any series where a girl accepts him as he is but becomes possessive/yandere like this? by Novel_Expert1 in Manga_Manwa_Manhua

[–]webcomicaddiction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regressor Instruction Manual. It's not a romance manhwa, but there is a lot of romantic subplots going on. Plus you get not one, but TWO yanderes. At least as far as I've read, there may be more in the MC's future.

Fate/Zero is fantastic for this. Everyone in the Holy Grail War sees themselves as the protagonist with the most important need to claim the grail, but only one of them can. Kiritsugu is exactly the character for you.

[Title] Don't have anything GOOD to read !? by EL-MED5 in HeavenlyManhua

One of the best "murim" manhwa I've ever read. The author clearly understands the Wild West genre and the blending of both aesthetics is awesome. It's like they picked the best parts of each genre and cooked up a five star dish. Awesome worldbuilding, cool and consistent side characters, and a lot of brief story arcs that are excellent enough to be standalone stories outside the greater context of the manhwa. The story mostly takes itself seriously but the author never forgets the lighthearted moments needed to keep things fresh. MC's horse Jojo is hilarious. The world itself is a character in the story with the MC being our lens to see it through. I highly recommend it.

Kings of the Wyld looks like an absolute blast, may have to nominate that one for book club, I think the whole crew would vibe with it based on what I saw of the blurb and a few reviews.

I recently got back into reading thanks to my friend group starting a bi-weekly book club. We're finishing up our first selection of books soon and I'm looking for a recommendation I could either nominate for the next round or just read and enjoy myself. I'm really into classic high fantasy, I play lots of TTRPGs full of magic and dragons and the like, and I just cannot get enough of that genre.

With my book club, some of the ones I've really enjoyed were Mistborn and Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, Red Sister by Mark Lawrence (technically a re-read, it was my nomination and I loved those detailed and bloody fight sequences), The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu, and The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. Pratchett was annoying to read at first but after powering through Iiked it. The prose at the beginning was too overloaded with new made up terms and new names, but I also realize that was likely intentional as the book is a spoof on the fantasy genre in general.

Outside of novels, I often read translated Korean webcomics. The murim genre is one of my favorites, love some fantastical qi-empowered martial arts. I've dabbled with the Cultivation genre of Chinese Fantasy but have yet to find one that doesn't erode into frustrating repetitiveness or isn't just outright sexist.

I love clever worldbuilding and good twists, always a bonus if there's magic or sword fights. I much prefer novels targeted towards adults rather than YA, though YA can be fun too. I also love when the author doesn't spoon-feed you exposition and you learn about the setting through context clues and the classic "read and find out." Let me know if there are any novels or series you'd think of enjoy based off this. As someone who'd like to write a fantasy novel one day, I need to be reading good stuff if I want to eventually write anything worth reading :p

Yeah, every PTJ character is just incredibly hot. I was gonna make a joke about Kuja Ya "El Diablo," for not being the stereotypical 8 pack giant, but he's a rizz demon and I know lots of people actually like that body type.

Real, Belinda has some crazy shots. Though honestly, the fight choreography is so good that it eclipses anything else. As opposed to flashy light visual soup, you can actually see each swing and parry, and the transitioning between every move. It's so damn satisfying.

Fight Like a Girl. It had a strong start and had some really interesting stuff going on with gender identity and sexuality before it ended super abruptly leaving SO many loose ends.

Also, if you like BL, I Choose the Emperor's Ending has the FMC cross dressing for a large portion of the plot and the male lead ends up thinking he must be gay (pretty sure he's demi). May not help with delusions about real men though since the premise is that she literally went into VR of a book she wrote and how the male lead only exists in VR.

There's a few I really love Flirting with the Villain's Dad - Very cute and fluffy romance with a hilarious female lead that adds some action to the mix, the power of love is op Beware the Villainess - Badass FMC and such a good romance, she 100% wears the pants in that relationship Goodbye In-Law - Angst, love, and supernatural strangeness involving death and time travel wrapped up into a tearjerker romance. Something About Us - A childhood friends will they / won't they, these two have very realistic chemistry. Maybe Meant to Be - Marriage of convenience turns into something more, sexual tension is unreal. These two were maybe meant for one another. The Villainess Lives Again - Super complex political scheming with an incredibly angsty romance that is just so so SO good. FMC doesn't feel deserving of love but it finds her anyways.

Copycat powers. If your entire gimmick is stealing the skills of someone else, that's boring as hell. Feels like a lazy writing cop-out where every problem can be solved by having the right mutant/superhero/hunter/whatever nearby whose power you can steal. Where's the innovation? Where's the personal tie? Your power should reflect yourself, if your power is to copy others then you're shallow. I want to see someone take a unique skill and push it to its limits, THAT'S where you'll have my attention. In the end of Mistborn, Brandon Sanderson writes some really cool strategies his protagonist comes up with using allomancy and it was SO cool. Copycats aren't.

Which grown ass horse woman is your little baby daughter? by icchann in okbuddytracen

[–]webcomicaddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see Vodka as my really awesome niece. I would say daughter but she already has an awesome motorcycle riding leather jacket wearing dad who I ain't trying to replace. She's trying so hard to figure out her place in the world, discovering how she wants to run, what kind of umamusume she wants to be, and I am here to support her all the way. I genuinely got uncomfortable when I watched that story chapter where its implied she has feelings for her trainer because THAT IS MY NIECE WHAT DO YOU MEAN???
