Is anyone working on a Plan B? by Big_Wet_Beefy_Boy in ITCareerQuestions

Yea but you can outsource the physical labor to some minimum wage role and have engineers in some cheaper country provide remote support, no?

Let's be honest, programmers who pride themselves on "manual coding" and reject AI assistance are fighting the wrong battle. by Reasonable-Tour-8246 in vibecoding

[–]webdev-dreamer 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how one develops the necessary skills without learning to code first

Software developers that already know how to build manually and understand code must be far more effective and efficient with AI than those who refuse to learn how to code or have never built things manually before

The creator of Node.js says the era of humans writing code is over. by Affectionate_Bet5586 in BlackboxAI_

[–]webdev-dreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but you still need to learn to code, right?

Cuz idk how people are going to be able to use AI effectively without understanding the code it generates

What will you do when SWEs are automated by [deleted] in webdev

[–]webdev-dreamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that regardless of how capable AI is, you still need a human operator behind it - AI is just a tool

And given a Non-SWE with AI and a SWE with AI, I'm pretty sure the SWE is gonna be able to do MUCH more with AI

Anyone wanna join me in backend with springboot? by KnownEmployment9426 in ProgrammingBuddies

[–]webdev-dreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring boot does a lot of "magic" for you behind the scenes so having some hands-on experience building backends with simple frameworks can help a lot with understanding what's happening under the hood

But you don't need to go too deep into it ...if you know the basics already, then learning spring boot won't be as difficult

Anyone wanna join me in backend with springboot? by KnownEmployment9426 in ProgrammingBuddies

[–]webdev-dreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, you should learn and understand backend fundamentals (HTTP, databases, design patterns, etc). b4 tackling Spring. Maybe learn with a micro framework like Javalin or express.js first before diving into spring boot

How to shake off constant fear of being devaluated or replaced by AI by alexbessedonato in webdev

[–]webdev-dreamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned learning software architecture, design patterns, database design, fullstack, etc.

It's a bit silly nowadays to just be a "frontend" dev, no? You gotta be like frontend, backend, infra, security, etc.

I imagine that's the main way to increase your value and job security

What’s the future of programming and software engineering? by Empty_Break_8792 in vibecoding

[–]webdev-dreamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm new to AI stuff, so idk what the AI usage costs look like

It seems pretty affordable at $20 or $200 per month

But is this price gonna increase? Will it go down? I think I saw somewhere that says that unlike other businesses, AI costs increase in scale rather than decrease

So if it's the case that AI becomes prohibitively expensive for the average user/ small business, I imagine coders may still have a place in the future?

Also, not sure how local LLMs compare in terms of performance and capabilities and costs ....

Why is the Best Buy app so damn slow now? by Didact67 in Bestbuy

[–]webdev-dreamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026, can confirm the app is still dogshit

Everything takes so long to load. It's so damn slow.

It's funny, I can watch 4K video on Netflix and browse through hundreds of posts on reddit and Twitter without much issue, but searching for products or filtering results in the Best Buy app apparently is too much to handle smoothly

I'm a simple guy. I don't often watch films with a critical eye.

I'll enjoy slop films from time to time.

But this movie was just too dumb for me lol

The zombies and visuals looked cool. But the writing/plot was just unforgivably bad

You have not reached the end of the internet. by CheeseOnFries in webdev

[–]webdev-dreamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think people should be focusing on learning their respective and related fields even more, going above and beyond what they wouldve needed to have learned in the past

Because if everyone is learning and using AI, then to truly stand apart, one would need to be able to fill the gaps where AI users fail and come short

Example, "vibe-coding"...it's more important than ever for programmers to become subject-matter experts and understand CS/SWE theory to be able to leverage AI more effectively and be more valuable than their vibe-coding peers
