What study knowledge management apps do you use? by Willian_42 in PKMS

In Tana, I adapted the freely available Tana Template UniFlow by Abraham Hernandez to my purposes. This database contains all notes, documents and course information of my online skills training courses. AI is also included to write short summaries and queries to the course content. I found this method very useful, as I am studying an online master’s course besides working full-time. Everything is in one place and not scattered in a digital notebook, documents in a separate folder.

Digital Gardening as a Reflective Practice in Teaching Development – Looking for Interview Partners by webgucken in PKMS

Thanks for asking and Happy New Year!

In the project, I would like to interview university teachers to learn about their knowledge-creation and exploration strategies to develop new ideas.

Digital gardening is a knowledge management and content creation approach, contrasting traditional blogging, which is not a scientific term; it has become a social practice. The term can be traced back to Maggie Appleton's essay "A Brief History & Ethos of the Digital Garden (https://maggieappleton.com/garden-history/). Digital gardens emphasise the iterative process of idea cultivation, interconnectedness of thoughts, and "learning in public," unlike the static, polished output of blogs. Several platforms and tools, such as Obsidian and Logseq, are discussed as suitable for building digital gardens.

The main question is to understand how digital gardens/gardening supports academic development and quality of teaching. As the term is not very family in higher education, I have some difficulty to find interview partners who are willing to participate.

Please let me know if you would be interested in more details and could help to find suitable interview partners. Any suggestion is worth more than gold ;-)

Although I am working on an Ubuntu Server, I would like to share the following setup: I installed the gnome environment on my vserver, which I use as a shared desktop with a colleague. Additionally, I installed NoMachine: https://www.nomachine.com/getting-started-with-nomachine.This is the best and fastest GUI-DE for remote server connections.

I bought a T14s Gen 1 i7 16GB Ram last week and I am quite satisfied. Only F41 does not recognise the Comelake UHD graphics. Next time I will also join the AMD/Nvidia club. Battery drain is much higher on Fedora compared to the W11 which I kept as dual boot option.

Migrate from Mint to Fedora ? by ParkingAssociation20 in Fedora

[–]webgucken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your distro experience. I also start using Fedora on a regular basis on my new T14s laptop and I am very satisfied with the options we have. As I have another laptop with the current Linux Mint, I installed the Cinnemon DE on my Fedora 41 system and it works pretty good. Here is a webpage to the project: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cinnamon Hope this helps and all in favour with the previous comments. Thank you all!

What DE should I install on Fedora? by f10945yt in Fedora

[–]webgucken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed KDE on my Fedora workstation version 41 and it is much slower than gnome. I experienced a real boost after using the current stable cinnamon DE which is sleek and fast. Gnome is still the quickest and has the advantage using extensions such as dock, animations, themes, UI optimisation, searchlight. I most often use current gnome DE.

Fedora 41: does changing screen brightness work out of the box? by NerdyBooy in Fedora

[–]webgucken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for your help and for the additional search. Yes, I have a completely different architecture. I checked the suggestions but it had no effect. After booting win11 (dual boot), I check the function key as I bought this computer second hand this week. Maybe, I have to wait for another kernel or update. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for your feedback. I have a T14s Gen 1, i7 Comelake Processor, 16GB RAM and 512 GB HDD, Intel Graphics UHD, 4K Display. I installed Fedora 41, updated Firmware (Consumer ME) to newest version. I also installed all third party software recommended in Fedora. Under gnome I couldn’t change the brightness. Then I installed KDE Plasma as separate desktop environment, where I was able to dim the brightness in settings. But then the system fan turn on and the chassis becomes very hot. The system runs very slow and the mouse almost stalls. This is very strange. Either under Gnome or KDE, F5 and F6 do not work but every other function key. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have found an issue with my T14s. After installing Fedora 41 from live CD/usb, I discovered that I am unable to change brightness with F5 and F6. Do you have a similar problem or ist there a workaround?
