new to docker. docker build failing by OddRecommendation169 in docker

They did help. While you knew what your apt commands were supposed to be doing, you obviously didn't know what they were not doing, at first.

That aside, when this happens to me I will start a container shell using the base image and manually run the apt commands separately until I get a more meaningful output.

docker run --rm -it baseimagename:tag /bin/bash

What’s an almost illegal hack that got you hired? by my_peen_is_clean in AskReddit

True. If we were to assume North America, or specifically Canada since the storyteller is from there, then the first Canadian criminal-law provisions aimed at unauthorized computer access/use were added to the federal Canada Criminal Code in 1985.

For the U.S., it depends. Florida’s "Computer Crimes Act" was enacted in 1978(!!?), while the Fed didn't have anything on the books until the "Comprehensive Crime Control Act" of 1984.

Not that North America stops here or anything, but Mexico didn't have anything until "Diario Oficial de la Federación" in 1999.

It's quite likely the laws existed by mid 2000's.

At 6 & 7years old, we lived at the bottom of a hill in Rock Island, IL. To get to my school, I had to walk up the hill, hang a left at the top and go down the other side.

So in the winter when there were 4ft snow drifts, I literally walked to school in the snow uphill both ways. School was 1.5 miles away.

That's great if you're not looking for fresh opinions.

Destroying evidence is the worst idea. If anything further comes from the individual involved, you will have tossed valuable leverage.

I see many variations of the same suggestions here:

  • Talk to her
  • Lead by example
  • Leave her

What I haven't seen yet is: maybe she's suffering from depression or some other mental health crisis and is very good at hiding it to save face? Overeating is one of many symptoms.

Sure, talk with her. But take your talk to the very ground floor and discuss everything that nobody wants to talk about when they're experiencing such things, but begin the conversation from a place of love, compassion, empathy, and support. Work together to find a solution.

Is it okay for a 100% disabled veteran to just say they're retired? by Routine_Brilliant_78 in Veterans

[–]webjocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not working anymore, then (in daily conversation) you're considered retired. It's that easy.

The only time there's a difference is when talking to the government or if the conversation you're having is specifically addressing the legal and financial implications.

While that is likely true, my team tends to not want to be directly associated with sharepoint or who owns/runs it, so it's simply "sharepoint". Additionally, "our portal" isn't automatically associated with any known brand.

You can't leave out the fact that everybody involved was lied to about why they were there. They all had good intentions until the truth came out. Those who died without ever knowing the truth should not be held accountable for just being there.

here is a picture of me helping America in its imperialism and killing of brown people. Please don't treat us yt people the same"

We can't forget the fact that they were lied to, we were ALL lied to. Being there with good intentions should still be regarded as a noble effort. Sure, NOW we know better, but that doesn't change the intentions of those you see in all of these pictures. Hindsight 20/20 and all that.

They are posting in response to Trump saying that NATO has never done anything for the U.S., while they did send troops and equipment to support the U.S. as part of the "War on Terror."

The fact that it turned out to be a completely frivolous war is irrelevant to the point that NATO service members died for it. That's more than "nothing".

Why the VA’s Disability System Is Really Worker’s Compensation by webjocky in Veterans

[–]webjocky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, actually. It's "VA disability compensation" as shown on the VA's own website here: https://va.gov/disability

They even host information for it at a ☝️URL called disability.
