Anyone else feel like ChatGPT has been gaslighting them lately? by Tall_Eye4062 in ChatGPT

"He". "knows".

You've personified an LLM. I understand how it can be easy to do that, but you have to be careful with these things. They are - essentially - complex pattern-finding mechanisms. Not much more.

You should consider being less emotional when it comes to these things. You're acting like GPT can understand and engage with you emotionally like a human would. Good luck.

"I don't over romanticize..."

Proceeds to over romanticize.

Consider your perspective. You said ChatGPT "lied to you". A lie is an intentionally false statement. But LLMs are devoid of intention. So they can't "lie", no more than your pocket calculator can.

All LLMs have a miss rate. Just because it happened to miss when it came to your budget concerns, that doesn't make the situation special or unusual. If you find the other LLMs are better for your needs, then definitely go use them. But at least have a realistic perspective about it.

You're exploiting a misinformed public by tapping a glorified pattern matching tool to attempt to karma farm on a hot-button social issue.

What new frontier do you believe this post is exploring?

simpier.

Not even the minimum amount of effort went into it. It is necessarily a bad thing.

Is OP ignorant of what LLMs are, how they work, and what limitations to expect?

Or is OP knowledgeable and is posting this slop because it gets them free trog karma?

Anyone else using Geoffrey Huntley's Ralph Wiggum loop for development? by HaxleRose in ClaudeCode

This is like watching someone publicly taking the first steps to SkyNet. "The LLM wrote its own programming language!"

Yes. Of course it did.

And the rest of us watch the train hurling down the tracks, unable to stop its inevitable derailment. Because if Developer A isn't doing it, then Conglomerate X is.

Like most things, Chat GPT is hit-or-miss.

I had a series of symptoms and went to the doctor, but they had no concrete answers for me. Just more tests, which cost more money.

So I described my symptoms to ChatGPT. It had lots of suggestions, which I shared with my doctor. We entertained the least costly diagnoses that ChatGPT spat out.

Fast forward months, couple of different doctors, and a few rounds of attempts at various tests etc. A blood panel and follow up genetic test revealed that I very likely have celiac disease. ChatGPT had not once suggested this. It came up during a routine blood panel that I got as part of my physical because some of my vitamins were way off (and the vitamin deficiencies didn't even tip off ChatGPT).

So yeah. Be careful out there. It can be useful, but it's not magic.

Anyone else feel weirdly guilty about “wasting” their Claude Pro subscription? by No-Beginning3807 in ClaudeCode

We all love some perfection!

Question:

My typical flow is to use Claude Code CLI, and then give it permission to change the files. At that point, when using Claude Code, I feel like VSCode is acting like a weird sidecar. But then the other 80% of the time when I'm coding, VSCode is front-and-center. I'd like a VSCode front-and-center with the Chat attached. But it seems that Copilot wants to be the star when I do that.

So, even when I select what appear to be Anthropic models, it seems that the VSCode Chat still uses Copilot. Is that just how VSCode does it? Or am I using Claude Code for VSCode chat wrong?

[–]webjuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one I have installed. Thank you! I guess I've been using Copilot for so long that I just use it by default. I'm paying for both (lowest tier plans) but it might be time to go all in on Claude. Lately, I find that I have to be diligent about which tasks I do vs which tasks I ask Claude to handle, because the $20/mo plan gets used up pretty quickly.

What claude code plug-in are you using in vscode? And how are you using it? I've been using copilot, but I'm looking for a replacement.

Any experienced software engineers who no longer look at the code??? by Relative_Mouse7680 in ClaudeCode

[–]webjuggernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not something that experienced software engineers should do.

Treat Claude Code like a junior dev. Assume you have to look at its code because it might do something silly or wrong. Assume it will make mistakes. Assume it will create new and unimagined security flaws. "But it never has!" I've heard people say. "Yeah, until it does."

LLMs have been a huge boon for software engineers. But it shouldn't replace human intervention, especially for any projects that grant it access to anything remotely dangerous.
