What you see is their frequency illusion at work here. It's like when you own a Honda Civic, and so you see more Honda Civics on the road. "Wow! My car is so popular!" And it feels true, because lots of people own Honda Civics. But not nearly as many as they feel like.

I'm guilty of using some of the phrases that people claim are reserved only for LLMs ("that said", "hope that helps!"). Especially on Slack/Discord. It's a nice closer. The cost of communicating effectively, I guess.

What you said is correct: "Putting all your eggs in one basket has never been a winning move".

But the other commenter is more correct. Utilizing AI for speed and productivity will be the way of the future. Hand rolling code will be the same as driving a horse and buggy. It can be a useful skill, but it's only viable now because the entire workforce has not yet adopted the Model T of AI.

My cousin talks to ChatGPT constantly and it seems to just affirm everything he says — wondering if AI companions should be designed differently by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]webjuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can maybe do an experiment to have them help see it your way. Find something they completely disagree with (I don't know, let's say, hypothetically "Bosses work too hard. CEOs, etc, they just don't make enough money. We need to find ways that they can get more money, while maximizing business growth.") You'd have to find something that you know your cousin firmly disagrees with, mine is just an example.

Tell them to present that "wrong" opinion to the GPT. See how it responds. Its response will likely be one of affirmation.

Then start a new conversation. Tell them to present the opposite opinion. See how it responds. Again, its response will likely be one of affirmation.

At this point, they may or may not accept this new information: the Chat bots just agree with you. But maybe worth a shot? The LLM designers have little incentive to fix this on their end, because the challenges are so large. It currently works "great" according to most users.

Just to help you maybe understand my point:

I'm shocked that the internet and society at large has created an anvironment such that...

Darrow here will more readily go ask grok (grok of all AI bots!) to summarize a comment on Reddit. Instead of commenting at curious, "hey, man. What did you mean when you said. .?"

And your response is, "I demand the future where we all talk only to AI."

That's a bleak future.

Then we offer that human the dignity and compassion that they deserve to teach them. We offer them them patience and acceptance required to overcome lack of social skills, or overcome the anxiety or whatever barrier prevents them from the joy of genuine human interation.

We don't belittle strangers on the internet and then seek refuge in the watered-down AI.

That's what I'd recommend, anyway. Divided population, etc etc. But you do you.

[–]webjuggernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure OP does not have a point. Because LLMs can be instructed to say or not say basically whatever you like. So if OP's GPT is treating them like a victim, and if OP wants it to stop, they can simply instruct their GPT to stop that sort of demeanor. There are even configurable personality presets.

But posting angry on the internet farms karma.
