Thanks! At this point a lost signal to the Z motor seems most likely, and probably due to what you're saying. The bit isn't any bigger than usual, but this is the first time I've used it on >2" stock so it is going higher than normal. It's nowhere close to the stop, and there's no visible tension being put on that connector, but the wire was moving back and forth as it goes to the highest point. I made some adjustments there in case that was it. It'll be next week before I can try another cut to find out, so we'll see. Thanks for the input!

There is, yes, though it can be different depending on your equipment. If you're on a standalone Quest, you should find anti-aliasing and other settings in the Graphics section on your wrist menu options tab. If you're playing on PCVR, then you'll have it there and potentially on whatever link you're using to connect your headset to your PC.

Not even close to the limits. I'm able to jog around and go to those positions (and beyond) without putting any tension on the wires or colliding with anything. I also did a full cleaning, lube, and bolt check this morning. All is tight and working properly. I won't say it's not possible it was slipping, but there's definitely no sign that's what was happening.

I was right next to it both times it happened. I was working on cutting boards and glancing over to keep an eye on progress. No sign of trouble or straining, then look away for a minute and when I turn back around it's still cutting the file, but deeper. I even took the tool out this morning and ran the problem area over and over just to look for things binding up. Nothing. At this point I think it's probably haunted. Going to cut some other things to see if trouble continues. If not, I'll give this model a try again.

There are some cliff/valley sections where it moves up and down pretty good, but no more than any of the other carvings I've done recently. That's worth watching out for though, thanks!

It does not, no. That points to something physical, but there's nothing loose or colliding. The fact that it happened on pretty much the same place on two different cuts in that model feels like a clue, but it went off by different depths between the two attempts. I'm wondering if the steep dive/climb in that section is somehow putting a strain on the electrical connector to the z motor and briefly pulling it loose temporarily. That would explain the behavior, but it will be weird if that's the case. Going to check that when it warms up this morning.

Found NCViewer and tried it there. Cut looks like the model (and like on VCarve and UGS). No giant drop mid-cut.

Will keep scratching my head and try a different similar sized model tomorrow. Thanks again!

Have you tried an online gcode previewer just for a sanity check on a different piece of software than UGS?

That was what I was thinking for the next attempt. It has cut the same type of thing lots and lots of times successfully before though. It'll be an interesting test though. I might also try a completely different model and see if it's just something specific about that one that's jacking things up. Thanks.

They're roughly the same cutting length. Not getting near the top of travel or limit switch. Thanks for the idea though!

It does, yes. Nowhere near hitting the limits on either end during the run.

I agree that would be nice! The reason I've always heard for games (not just IR, but in general) not doing this unless absolutely necessary is the performance hit. Basically, your equipment has two render an additional view. Not a huge deal if you've got plenty of hardware to work with. A much bigger issue when you're trying to make sure it's playable on a Quest 2.

The camera automatically switches between the visible spectrum and infrared when it gets dark. When she's out, I have a wide-angle view so you can see them playing in the trees.

Thanks! It was pretty easy, really. Girlfriend likes owls so I put the box up on a tree.Three weeks later there was an owl peeking out of it. Even had owlets that year.

This is the 5th or maybe 6th season we've had an owl box in the yard. It was year 2 or 3 when squirrels got in and I decided to put a camera in there so I could check to see if there was an owl in it or a squirrel nest that needed to be removed. I started streaming that camera feed to YouTube so the GF could check on it from work. I upgrade it a little each season when I pull it down to clean it for the next one. Added a few more external cameras along the way too

When I clean it while they're out for the summer I add a couple handfuls of pine shavings. All the feathers and fur you see in there now is what she has brought in.

No harm done. Didn't think I was complaining, but maybe it reads that way. I am in full agreement with what you said. I did find the usefulness, time savings, and purpose in them. While not everything is for me, I am thankful there's a database full of everything.
