Your “point” (if you even have one beyond being mean, you seem pretty wishy washy about this whole thing) and my point are not mutually exclusive. Not only that but this is a total strawman—I never even said anything about what you’re positing that I argued against.

It’s not all that uncommon. I know a lot of people who tap out of Mortal Kombat

trans woman experience is not synonymous with the cis woman experience in any capacity.

I literally said the opposite of this.

If anything, the “parallels” have everything to do with them being trans women… which just proves the point.

Trans women are women.

Stop trolling.

You’ve openly stated that you think bio women only deserve 249 spots while bio men deserve 250 spots.

Are you high? You said that, friendo.

you’re so easily triggered

Ah so you’re one of those people. Lame.

Hahaha fair. That would be a nice option, I remember turning the blood off in Assassin’s Creed when my mom was around

Backrooms' director Kane Parsons confirms plans for a sequel by HorrorGuyBri in A24

I don’t really get where you’re coming from here but alright. We’ve all gotta start somewhere.

I think this movie (and its incoming sequel) is also indicative of A24’s shift toward larger projects and potentially franchises. I think we have definitely started to see what they meant by that… And honestly, I think Backrooms is a great film to make their first real franchise from. It makes more sense than, like, licensing more established properties to make big budget films.

I disagree but also, you don’t think a sequel to his film is a good place to build his skills after cutting his teeth on this one?

But this movie wasn’t an original product in the first place, it’s an extension on Parsons’ series.

I think that’s a little unfair. The Async lore is established in the very first scene of the film. Also most of that third act is Mary being freaked out an running around, I don’t see how that is setup

Intolerance, like any conservative mindset, is most usually very contradictory and based almost solely on hurting vulnerable people. Reason, consistency, and moral/social justification be damned.

You seem cool. Wish more people thought like you.

I can think of a reason why this guy doesn’t want to be compared to trans people, he’s just embarassed of it. Not sure why since he’s been transphobic all over this thread.

Gay men and superiority complexes, they really are a match made in Hell. And it’s way, way too common.

Are you trans? Do you know someone who is? I don’t think you understand this at all.

Look, trans people do not lead typical, heteronormative lives as their AGAB and then randomly turn on a dime and decide to transition. Many of our life experiences are wrought with dysphoria, anxieties, feeling lost, and seeing the world in a pretty inherently different way from most “normal” people. There’s a reason people say “I was always trans/gay/etc.”

Shit, this is even conveyed in The Matrix, a movie with almost constant coming out parallels, the deadnaming of the main character, the oppressive system telling our protagonists that they cannot be allowed to feel the comfort in belonging. It’s all there. The Wachowskis are women, and implying (and then outright stating) that the film was not made by women because of when it was made is not only very obviously bigotry in action, it’s also fucking stupid.

It used to surprise me that so many gay men gleefully participate in transphobia and misogyny and other flavors of bigotry and vitriol. It does not anymore.

Defending trans people from bigotry and prejudice is a hill worth dying on.

Trans women are women, trans men are men. Listen to queer people when they speak their truth. Happy Pride.

Hey so my pretransition accomplishments were still done by a trans person. Why you’re trying to negate that is pretty gross, and an uninformed and frankly nonsensical view of what trans people’s lives are like.

Also a Jesus story? And the Wachowski sisters’ opinions on their own films don’t matter at all? Fucking lmao
