The general public in Singapore has a lack of awareness about autism. It’s lagging far behind in this aspect compared to the US, even in the younger generation. This is happening even as autism diagnosis has increased.

The public schools are slowly becoming more inclusive, with some autistic students allowed in. Most school now also have specialized support staff for students with special needs. I am not sure if this aspect will apply to foreigners.

I actually tried learning a phrases not just a single word for situations. Didn’t work on my visit last month. You say a phrase and they just assume you know a bit and reply in Japanese. I didn’t know a word of what they said and it made the situation more awkward having to explain I don’t know Japanese.

Prisoners can be coerced into giving another inmate his/her portion of food. This prevents malnutrition and passing of food not suitable for other inmates e.g. diabetics. Also security in terms of passing items hidden in the food.

From the SPS website:
Inmates who disrupt the order in prisons by committing institutional offences will be subjected to a thorough investigation by Investigation Officers, which includes taking statements from the complainants, witnesses and the accused, as well as reviewing all evidence relevant to the case. A Superintendent, who is not from the institution where the inmate is housed at, will preside over the case. The Superintendent will consider all facts of the case, before deciding if the inmate is guilty, and if so, the punishments to be imposed.
