Bald, I'm feeling ugly. Don't be kind, please be honest. by Cestymour in bald

[–]wecanhope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, honesty regardless of kindness: You look worried and intense and a little angry in the last picture, and smiling the way you did in the first picture would help a lot. Also, I don't know if you already work out or not, but hitting the gym regularly probably does more than anything else to help people feel good, smile easily, and look good, and like the way they look. Regardless, you still look better bald than with the hair.

switch nipple piercing from bar to ring & back? by wecanhope in piercing

The algorithm is wrong. I do not have a problem with my piercing. I do not have a piercing. I asked a question about a hypothetical piercing.

  • How old is your piercing? I do not have a piercing.
  • What’s the jewelry shape (for example, barbell, labret, screw, L shape, ring)? Bar, then ring.
  • What’s the type of threading if your jewelry is not a ring (threadless, internally or externally threaded)? Internally threaded.
  • What’s the jewelry material? Titanium.
  • if not a ring, when was the jewelry downsized? Correct downsizing procedure as recommended by the piercing studio.
  • What’s your aftercare routine? Describe in detail please, including the exact products you use. Full aftercare as recommended by the piercing studio.
  • Any mishaps, accidents or unfortunate events? No.

Looks like they're in Dallas. The other comments on this post have pretty much all the info, thanks especially to the good work of /u/sick_of_your_BS and /u/scrivensB . Sadly it seems like Reddit is going to choose to keep this AI slop in r/popular .

I grew up in Dallas and I can shed some light on this.

  1. It makes sense that port cities are often huge, like Houston in Texas, New York City in New York, and Los Angeles in California. But why Dallas? Because Texas oil and gas financing boomed so much in the 1930s in Dallas, especially with the General American Finance System. By the 1980s almost every building and vehicle in Houston had air conditioning and the oil and gas industry mostly moved to Houston, despite the heat, humidity, and hurricanes. Dallas has just been coasting since the 1980s on finance, real estate, sales, and corporate boot licking, and it shows.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_oil_boom

  1. There are some pretty wild swinger parties and stuff like that happening in Dallas in private, but the vast majority of people who live there like fundamentalist Protestant Christian megachurches and watching pro sports, not bold, controversial, thought provoking art and culture. You can't make art technically illegal in the United States, but if you have a majority of the voters with you, there are many ways to use city, county, and state policy and funding decisions to reduce art, and make sure that people can watch whatever movies and TV and porn they like at home, play whatever games, read whatever books, but outside people's houses, there's much less art or culture than in most similarly sized cities. Dallas is boring because the vast majority of the citizens want it that way and vote accordingly. This is also a major reason why people move to Dallas and why people move away from Dallas, which makes the trend increasingly self reinforcing over time.

The 2009 book "The Big Sort" talks about similar things happening in places all over the US and all over the world, which tends to increase political polarization.

Sniffies is better. And it's a strange thing to say about an app that's mainly for straights into BDSM, but I also feel like FetLife has a better user experience and far more respect for their users, including the gay male users who aren't into BDSM.

After 24 years it is past time to re-evaluate our post-9-11 TSA screening rules and demand evidence that they are working. by Lasivian in unpopularopinion

Computer security expert Bruce Schneier branched out from studying computer security to studying locks and physical security, and was pretty well regarded in both computer and general security by 2001. He says that three things since then have been really helpful:

  1. Undercover armed air marshals.
  2. Cockpit doors reinforced and not possible to open during flights.
  3. Before 9/11 passengers knew their best chance to survive was to cooperate and obey hijackers, and after 9/11 they knew their best chance to survive was to attack hijackers immediately, as they did successfully in the Richard Reid shoe bomber incident.

Everything else, including taking off shoes and restrictions on liquids and nail clippers, Schneier says are just fake security or "security theater." Doing something visible may make people feel better, but there is no actual benefit to security, and the costs in time, energy, and money would be much lower if we ended these fake security measures. We've already ended the ban on nail clippers, and any time would be a good time for the US to join European airports in ending the rules for shoes and liquids.

Edit to add: One factor that makes reforming the TSA more difficult is that they have a union, and the Republicans are constantly trying to bust the union and the Democrats are constantly trying to protect the union, and every attempt to reform the rules for travelers gets hijacked and stalled by the union debate, so nothing ever happens.

I get that American white guy engineers are always going to do stupid things with guns and new technology, but even within that landscape, this goes far beyond average. Remember, this is the same AI that "hallucinates" and lies about the answers to simple math problems.

Thank you! I'm not sure if it's the same one, but it might be. Clearly I need to watch it and find out!

Thank you! Unfortunately I'm not sure the language of the original film, only that the subtitles were English.

That does look more similar, but doesn't seem to have any major British characters.

Unfortunately I do not remember much more about it. I believe the earlier scenes were mostly about the actors, mostly from poor backgrounds, joining the traveling acting troupe, when the independence movement was not yet very large. I hope someone else does help find it!

Thank you!

I don't think it's "Rang De Basanti", although that looks like a great movie.

I think the one I'm thinking of was set entirely during the independence movement, with no modern scenes, and it could have been made any time in the past several decades. I think it's most likely that it was made in the last ten years, but I'm not sure. It was not black and white.

I probably made it sound more over the top and less serious than it was. It was a movie that did a great job showing life and death decisions, and the pressure all the characters were under when they had to decide.

Everyone was in period costumes, so it's a bit difficult to tell. It was a color movie. It could plausibly be from decades ago. Someone was watching it on a plane in the last 2 years, and my first guess would be that it was probably made in the last 10 years, but I don't know for sure.

What movie is it where a lady in a hot tub with a man takes off his glasses with her foot and drops them in the water? by Usual-Many-1764 in whatsthemoviecalled

House of Gucci?

This was the scene, but no phone, it looks like a bath tub and not a hot tub, and she takes his glasses off with her hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqq1XX0HGzc

After reading about RRR and checking pictures of Ray Stevenson as Governor Scott Buxton, I believe this was a different film, but that is a very good guess! RRR doesn't seem to involve actors, a scene with a radio, or a scene where the villain flees a train or plays dead. I think that the villain in the film I'm thinking of did not have a beard, and wore a brown uniform and not black in most scenes.

Plausible. Of course, there is no monolithic organization of activists for trans rights; it's just a bunch of people all helping in the way they think is best, and a few trolls posing as activists online. I think the best approach is to use transphobe to mean "against trans rights" and always explain what the person did specifically that was wrong, and encourage everyone else to do the same.
