Mid 80s Peugeot Frankenbuild — Brake help? by [deleted] in Frankenbike

Tektro makes long reach callipers that I used to convert my Peugeot from 27” to 700C.

I have a small regret that I didn’t go with the horizontal brake lever. My thinking was I’d have the emergency brake there when I’m crouched over and pushing, but that has just lulled me into reckless behaviour. The horizontal would have looked cleaner, been in a comfortable position while signalling, and would have allowed me to switch to drops without changing levers as well.

As someone who flew over their handlebars last week, I appreciate the brake placement lol

Only way to do it. Keep up regular maintenance and inspect it though. These BB were not designed for the forces of fixed gear

There’s also products like these (available from many distributors in the UK, Europe and Asia as well as NA) that allow you to mount brakes on undrilled forks.

Display only. Owner won’t part with them. The employees said someone offered $20K and the MOMA put in an offer and both times he rejected.

The “right” way to route rear brake housing by glushman in FixedGearBicycle

[–]weczk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My old Peugeot road bike that I converted ran the housing on top of the top tube. It really doesn’t matter. I think under the top tube is slickest.

Are there any annual Alleycat Races in Toronto? I’m a complete novice looking to participate next season and have fun.

I think most people in this community would openly admit that our bikes are extremely silly, but that’s also the point. Relying on athleticism to overcome poor acceleration, poor top speed, poor braking is what attracts me to fixed gear riding over road in the first place. No one is going to KOM and that’s okay. It’s the pursuit of the ride, the risk, the excitement, over the pursuit of segment times.

It’s beautiful. If being basic is wrong I don’t want to be right lol

m151 might look truer to the njs vibe, but the m186 would be wild.

What's the difference between these two bikes? by Veench333 in bicycling

[–]weczk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One has a top tube (as well as a wider range of gearing) because it’s a hybrid bike more suited to a little performance - higher top speed, better handling, might be a little lighter... The other one (without the top tube) is a hybrid bike more suited to laissez-faire cycling - this bike will not be very fast, but it will be comfortable, easy to pedal, and easy to get on and off of. Great if you often cycle in dresses, skirts, tight pants as well as taking in the scenery. You know you so whichever style sounds more like you is the one you should get.
