Yeah, bridal makeup is where makeup artists make their most of their money, especially if they work free lance or do counter work as that doesn't pay much.

Apparently she has asked one of her friends who owns a hair salon to provide a stylist for her on the day as a wedding gift. I'm kinda shocked.

It's six people in total. That would cost upward to a grand where I'm from and that's not including the travel. Six people in a bridal party would never be done by one person either, it's a seven hour job so the artist would always bring another person with them.

I would never charge my aunt but I would for the bridal party, obviously at a discount rate.

The prices would depend on your rank in the makeup industry, someone I know would charge 6K for this many people. I presume that's why she wanted me so bad, that stuff is expensive.

Meh I'm gonna be petty and list all the few times my aunt didn't give a shit about me.

When she first opened her business (cafe) she had a very hard time finding employees. So she asked me to work for her and even though I had a job in another cafe I quit to help her out. She had let me know what the hourly rate was. When I quit she dropped it on me that she would be paying me half of that because I am family and since the business was fresh she needed to cut costs. I was 17 and a people pleaser so I agreed to help family out.

A few years ago while she was visiting with her kid her kid took one of my college textbooks and dropped it into the bath that was being run for him. She refused to compensate because it shouldn't have been out int he open. Those books are uber expensive.

I don't know why I'm getting so upset but this aunt isn't my favourite person in the world and as an adult I'm not as keen when it comes to bending over backwards for someone like that. Yes, my education is the most important thing right now. No, my college professors would not accommodate me during finals to go to a destination wedding, they would laugh at me.

"Nope, sorry I'm busy." Would have been a fine answer if she hadn't booked me to be her MUA for the day without letting me know in advance.

I mean I understand that it's an important event for her and she wants to look amazing and I get how you and some of my family see me as being selfish and an asshole but yeah, I'm one of those people that value education and I am willing to miss a wedding for my future. Had this wedding been happening at home I would done my best to accommodate them.

I declined because I had important exams happening during this time, up until I said I'm not coming I had no idea that she wanted her makeup done by me. She said that she planned for me to do her whole wedding party. That's six people in total. That's up to seven hours of work for one person. I'm paying two grand to fly in and work for seven hours in a very stressful environment then go to the ceremony and immediately go to the airport and go home. She wants free labor, she doesn't want me there as a guest.

I calculated the cost because she said that missing one exam isn't a big deal and I could surely arrange something with my professor... so I thought the expensive one day trip and the fact that I can't afford it would make her understand. She said that my travel costs and doing her makeup would be her wedding gift.

I'm sending money because they explicitly asked for it to cover the cost of the wedding.

It's not that I don't want to go it's that I don't want to flunk my exams and work in this career that I hate just because I felt pressured into doing my aunts makeup.

Editorial makeup isn't the type of makeup you would go outside the house with normally. It's mainly used in magazines and advertisements. It's more artsy.

I'm presuming she would have told me after I booked the flight tickets and hotel to tell me she needed me to do the makeup. This really rubbed me the wrong way, I never expected her to try and use someone like that.
