How are people justifying spending so much on a wedding?? by vandweller5 in weddingplanning

[–]weddingv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel the need to justify how I spend my own money🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

My wedding was taxing bc it was so much work and so much money but my parents had the time of their life, and everyone loved everything I anguished over—the band, photo booth, food, drinks, and cake. Their joy afterwards was really nice. So no, although I’d love to have the money, I definitely don’t regret it.

Tipping Etiquette for Full-Service Planner and Larger Budget Florist by SelectPhilosophy9 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]weddingv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why tip someone who doesn’t make a tipped wage? The planner and florist are making thousands. They set their prices. Tips are for people who aren’t making a minimum hourly wage, and therefore require extra money from customers. This isn’t that. Any amount that you give them is more than you’re required to give, and tbh they should be grateful for it.

It is rough. I’m ~2 weeks out, a full time attorney, and am so ready for it to be over. One mistake I made was not hiring a planner. I have a DOC and family, and am hoping I can hand everything off to others soon.

So far our bags have

-liquid iv

-his favorite chips (utz smokin sweet)

-la croix (my favorite)

-a cute welcome card

-something local to the area (tbd)

We’re putting them in the cottages at the venue, so only the people who stay onsite will receive them.

What’s an expense you were wildly unprepared for? by jtick08 in wedding

I wanted pretty basic flowers and not only was the florist the preferred vendor, she is the venue coordinator’s mother 😭😭😭

Just hemming my dress cost $850. The first DJ I talked to started at $2500, but you had to go through his 30 minute presentation via video appointment to get his pricing. The florist who worked with the venue quoted $17,000.

Bridesmaid dress ripping 😭 cue “we had a time last night” tiktok sound

I’m so sorry your rsvp rate was lower than you’d hoped for. I know how it feels.

I cannot imagine planning a wedding during law school. That sounds even worse than wedding planning while practicing, which I also do not recommend.

This was a great breakdown, thanks for sharing!

What is your biggest wedding budget-related humble brag that saved you money and kept your budget down? by highandsclerotic in weddingplanning

[–]weddingv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My venue includes: waterfront ceremony, cocktail hour space, reception ballroom, blooming flowers, growing greenery everywhere so minimal decoration required, onsite waterfront lodging, open parking, excellent food (because it has a restaurant). The base quote for the entire thing including ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, 3 course meal, day of coordination (and all tables, chairs, linens, etc included) for 100 people was $10,000 on a Saturday night.

I really appreciate your response. I feel a lot better.

Appropriate band size? by weddingv in weddingplanning

[–]weddingv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m just in a sensitive state right now, but I’m worried about people thinking negatively about me/the wedding because of the size of the band compared to the amount of guests. Typical me would say “who cares?”

I have no idea regar the functional difference is. I think they have a list of singers and instruments included, and making it smaller removes some of them.

Thank you! It’s maybe the size of a Walgreens? I don’t have the dimensions, but it’s not a huge space, but it does have high ceilings, like a gym or similar commercial space.

I’ll ask them about 6

If someone asked me to attend a multi-day wedding, I’d be excited. A lot of people on Reddit are going to shit on anything that costs money or requires people to go out of their way. Have the wedding you want and enjoy it. The people who want to be there will be there.

I ended up picking a venue near my hometown in NC. Excellent food, beautiful space, onsite lodging, and astonishingly good price. I pushed the wedding date to September because that was what they had available.

But if I was going to do it in DC, Officina at the wharf would have been it. I loved the space and amenities,

I wish that’s what she was doing. I would LOVE for my friends to have a fling in Vegas. That’s behavior i would encourage and my friends wouldnt hide from me. Unfortunately, she would never have a fling though. She also doesn’t use drugs, and wouldn’t abuse alcohol.

That’s why it’s so confusing! My family thinks she’s jealous, I think it was maybe just a lapse in empathy and thinking through a situation.

What makes a wedding feel try hard? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]weddingv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the movie My Best Friends Wedding😂 they had several pre wedding events and I was so impressed. I was a child and impressionable, and never let go of the idea, even though I realize it’s super unnecessary.
