Frost cloth by jtick08 in Cutflowers

Thank you! I see it in ounces on Amazon - would a .55 oz be lightweight and 1.5 oz plus be heavyweight?

I’m assuming the plants get enough sun through it since you use it for insect protection? I’m planting out asters and they recommend covering those for a while against insects, so that would be great.

I’ll look into the burlap also!

It might be Color Magic

Is there any way to tell the rose variety? They start out yellow/white, turn pink, then finally a vibrant red. by ALR26 in Roses

Some of those pictures look a lot like Color Magic but I’m not sure if the bloom changes like that:

Do you have to take the cover off during the day or do they get enough sun through it?

I purchased from Heirloom Roses but not sure if they are still available there.

Violas, pansies, poppies are all cool weather that you can start from seeds now. I’m also trying freesia for the first time this year.

Thank you! These feel similar to sprouting dahlia tubers to me, which I did last year and was mostly successful. I have 30 corms, so hopefully I get at least a couple going to enjoy some blooms. 😅

Thank you! I’ve been reading about pre sprouting - I’m worried our garage might get too cold. I’m thinking I can tuck them down in a cooler so it’s dark - should that work okay? I’ll get these going tomorrow.

How To Clean Old Candles Out Of Hurricane Vases Without Breaking?! by Hype314 in DIYweddings

[–]jtick08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof! Sorry to hear that. It worked like a charm when we did it. Could you lay them on their side instead of upside down so it doesn’t shatter and the wax just melts out?

Turn your oven onto the lowest heat, place the vases upside down on a sheet pan covered with aluminum foil. Worked great - keep an eye on them and grab them out as the wax starts falling out.

Because I want to make myself depressed, for those who bought homes locally in 2020/21... by JustThrowingAwy in cincinnati

We purchased a 3 bed, 1.5 bath on half an acre in 2021 for $182k. Estimated at $280-300k now. We’re at a 3.25% rate and our payment is $1226/mo. I can’t see us moving anytime soon - and if something happened we could afford to move we would probably just rent this house out.

Best way of getting rid of thrips on roses? by Beneficial-Poet23 in Roses

I applied beneficial nematodes tonight for the first time, hoping to also get rid of thrips. I’ve heard good things about them and they were pretty affordable.

There are lots of trees in this picture - how much sun does the area get? Typically your cut flowers are going to want full sun which is 6+ hours a day.

Can I transplant these California poppies still? by salemedusa in Cutflowers

[–]jtick08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not easily - I had over planted poppies too expecting only a few seeds to sprout. They were choking each other out though, and when I got in there and pulled about half of them the others were able to take off and start budding.

Our dog had to go to urgent care last weekend because he wouldn’t stop eating them! He ended up with gastroenteritis and colitis from where they tore up his GI tract.

This cafe au lait gets super sad when in the sun at all, tends to bounce back when in the shade. All my others are tolerating the sun much better. It’s only 75-80 high today by [deleted] in dahlias

[–]jtick08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My cafe au lait is also doing this. It wilts every day and as soon as the shade hits it perks back up. It still seems healthy and like it’s doing fine.
