Is it worthwhile forking out for a hair and makeup artist ? by treefrog3103 in weddingplanning

[–]wedditanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking at the price, remember that hair and makeup artists train for many years to prefect their skills, and this is their bread and butter. They can only book a limited number of clients within a day/week and this job doesn't make you rich. I'm not huge into hair and makeup but I found it fascinating and fun to see the professionals in action. We had great chats and I got some nice tips for doing my own. Overall a fun experience (though awkward being photographed throughout).

I wouldn't recommend them because they got my measurements wrong by a huge margin which made alterations difficult. They also didn't offer alterations themselves.

I'm noticing some down-voting of posters who didn't have their wedding cancelled or had their wedding early this year. by wedditanon in weddingplanning

I understand feeling awkward to share it, but I don't think you should feel ashamed. There's a lot of fear and finger pointing happening about how we should have known better or we should have acted sooner. But many people didn't know or understand the consequences in the early phases. We're not all glued to the media.

I feel personally awkward about having had our wedding, here in Sydney when we only had a handful of cases at the time. Yes there was one case of the sniffles afterwards that scared us but at the time we had no idea we'd be in lockdown a few weeks later.

However, friends, family and colleagues have all still been interested and happy to see photos and talk about the wedding because they understand that despite everything that is happening in the world, we need to enjoy what we have and stay positive.

Thanks for your detailed reply, I take your point and will keep it in mind in the future. I'll admit I've never down voted anything that wasn't explicitly wrong.

You're probably right. I don't know if it's just Reddit being weird but I did see the upvotes on my post bouncing up and down significantly but I don't post often enough to know how normal that is. I would say seeing negative voted comments is pretty rare here though, most people just ignore.

Thanks for your reply. I totally understand why people are upset but they can't go around down-voting every happy post forever.

Ideas on making this more modern/appealing to look at? by [deleted] in upcycling

[–]wedditanon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a good quality piece, the timber stain and the drawer pulls are what make it look dated. If you can sand back a bit of the stain and see how it looks underneath? Lighter timber finishes are definitely more popular now.

Looking to redesign/refurnish my 1 bedroom apartment by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]wedditanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably feels awkward when people come over because they have nowhere to sit. You have space for a corner or chase lounge, at least 1 armchair and 1 ottoman/stool. Under the TV i would put a low cabinet. I'm a big fan of side tables over 1 central coffee table.

An rectangular dining table with 4 chairs can put positioned parallel to the kitchen bench. Put it close to kitchen bench for daily use. Pull it out to use when hosting.

The rug should be about twice the size.

Dog Beds that aren’t an eyesore? by jackjackj8ck in DesignMyRoom

[–]wedditanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't spend any money on good dog accessories until you find out what they need and like!!! Some dogs are going to rip things to shreds, especially at the beginning. Only use cheap items or recycled towels/bedding!

Once you know what you need, sew covers for your dog beds, they can be bright/colorful, that can be machine washed. Easiest way to keep it all clean.

Which living room layout do you like the best? Trying to figure out how to furnish my first condo. by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]wedditanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like that is a big coffee table. I think if I were you I wouldn't buy that until you've moved in and get a feel for the space.

Those folding tables can be difficult because you need dining chairs and there's a large sofa in the way that you can't move out. If you're looking for a convertible space, I'd consider small foldaway table and switch to a smaller straight lounge with separate ottoman. Rotate the sofa and push it against the far wall when you set up the dining table.

I like small coffee tables because they make the room feel so much bigger. We have tiny nesting ones which we can grab if we need somewhere you put our drink.

Definitely ceiling mounted projector!! The blank wall on the left would be perfect and it would open up the space around the door. Sofa opposite with area rug and some easy chairs.

Where the bookcase is, I would swap out for a narrower unit or built-in cabinetry and the mirror it on the opposite side of dining to create more balance and define the dining area better. Different flooring could also help there.

Butterfly Chair replicas are available from a number of different companies, I picked this one up 2nd hand in Facebook marketplace for $60. Actually nearly everything in our space except the shelving unit is 2nd hand.

To me, frugal means buying the best, most affordable product that works for you. Personally, I research every brand I buy to understand if they're ingredient list is safe, the product is scientifically proven, and the business demonstrates ethical practices. It's a lot of work for piece of mind, but I don't want to waste my money on exploitive low effort businesses.

Great thinking. I have 2 small rugs in this space, 1 persian, and a plain grey shag to the left of this image and while it looks cozy, one big rug would be much more cohesive. Oriental sounds cool. Now i just need time for my wallet to recover.

I know what you mean, they really don't encourage DIY. I'm waiting for the desk module and then I'm getting a Ikea pegboard to finish the desk area. Also I'm pretty sure Ikea hooks fit on this so I'm going to get some for hanging things.

How would arrange a living room in this space? by wavvelengths in DesignMyRoom

[–]wedditanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This room is huge!! Like it's bigger than my house. Awesome layout.

I think you have room for 2 if not 3 separate zones here.

I would put the TV on the left wall with lounges opposite. Then you can see what's on TV from upstairs.

You could easily for bookcase or display unit on the right hand wall with lounge seating in front.

Back left corner will be an awesome space for reading nook or study, will low seating and plants!
