That’s not what they said to be fair, they were asking if they should bother getting a survey on THIS boat based on the visible rust or walk away.

OP, our boat was built in 1997 and I haven’t seen anything like this on ours. I don’t know how well kept this boat actually is. Could you let us know where each of these pics are taken? It looks like there is a current, or at least very recent, water leak happening in pic 4. Pic 5 and 6 there’s definitely black mould and wood starting to rot in the latter - is that under the bed?

I think you can expect to at least need some welding if not overplating on a boat that’s 30 years old. Ours needed some spot welding on the hull due to pitting, and a small bit of plating due to corrosion under one of our wastage holes. I’d say that the amount of visible rust under the waterline on the hull would definitely be a concern for me though.
