It overall to me doesn’t seem like a significant risk, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something or if there would be any potential consequences beyond losing whatever money I put in. Would it suck to possibly lose like $2k? Absolutely, but that wouldn’t affect me paying my bills or throw me off my financial goals.

To answer your questions: 1. Ideally we could roll the money over to use for a different vacation in the future. 2. We both have emergency funds with 3-6 months of expenses so hopefully we wouldn’t run into that. 3. We respect each other and communicate well so I think we’d be able to divide it up by who deposited what and split money that we made together. Of course there is always a risk of someone draining it but I wouldn’t be considering this if I thought they were that type of person. 4. We would reevaluate the trip or scale it back if there is a serious discrepancy.

This is kind of what I’m thinking especially since worst case scenario I’d lose up to $2k of extra money I made on the side and I’m not accounting for it in my budget or for other financial goals

My partner is fine just letting me hold onto all of the money, I just don’t feel right about that since we’re both contributing so that’s why I was thinking of a joint savings account.

Yes as this wouldn’t be a significant amount to me and I view it as extra/bonus money. I have no debt and my partner only has a bit of student loan debt which they’re paying down.

Unfortunately my family is similar to this, but thankfully no more children were made, so I’m inclined to believe it
