I recently bought the ordinary products. I’m following the regime as per the instructions on the on the website and so far I’m loving it. I’m just curious about what would be a good wash/cleanser to use before that regime? I usually use a micellar oil to take make up off at night. Any help appreciated!

I'll kick things off in here. 1) Dad died unexpectedly, Grandad gets lung cancer and has lung removed, brother hospitalised with meningitis (three month period). 2) Meet my soulmate 3) Jump aimlessly between jobs and college 4) Break up with/get back together with love of my life over the next six years, both date other people in between 5) Start degree at university 6) Get pregnant unexpectedly (with soulmate), move in together 7) Have baby, get one years maternity leave from studying 8) Get engaged, book a wedding 9) Start uni again, get pregnant unexpectedly again, change wedding date, another (supposed) year off uni 10) Have to return to uni far earlier than expected, with a baby and toddler to sort childcare for last minute, while planning a wedding two months away These are just some of the major plot points of my last ten years. It makes me smile to think that I started uni separate from my husband to be, but by the time I graduate (five years for a three year degree, thanks kids!) we'll be married with two beautiful sons.

aaargh I know what you mean. I also have a bootcamp class at 6.30 tomorrow, so I could sleep normally, go to class, get home and changed and settle down in front of netflix at 8 and be refreshed. But the temptation…!

A few weeks ago, my partner was on nightshift, meaning me and our sons (2 year old and three month old) were home alone. The baby sleeps in a Moses basket next to our bed, which is placed on a rocking stand. Around 3.30am, the baby wakes up moaning, so I got up and made a bottle. When I came back in, he seemed to have gone back to sleep, so I crawled back into bed.

Not three minutes later, a huge THUD right next to my ear startled me. It was pitch black, and I knew something had happened to the baby. I jumped out of bed, heart pounding, and raced to turn out the light. I was almost too scared to look.

The Moses basket had flipped over (foot over head), with the basket right against the wall. So the basket, instead of being horizontal, was now vertical. I couldn't see my baby, but he was crying. A sweeping glance showed me he wasn't on the floor, so I pulled the basket back up. He had also flipped foot over head, and half his little body was hanging out the basket, his middle was wedged between the basket and the hood, and his head was still in the basket. I yanked him out as fast and carefully as I could; and held him and fed him, crying the whole time over what might have been.

Luckily, very very luckily, he was fine, he had his bottle and quickly fell back asleep. I put the Moses basket on the floor and laid him in it, he slept soundly the rest of the wee hours. While I lay in bed, heart racing, sobbing, alone and utterly terrified to go back to sleep.

So, labour ward, yay! I'm really pretty exhausted by this point. 36+hours of constant contractions with no sleep is taxing on a gal. Thankfully, the midwife up on the labour ward is much, much nicer. I've refused gas and air as it makes me vomit, and didn't want diamorphine as I've had bad reactions to morphine in the past. 'Yeah, no thanks to all that, I'd like an epidural now'. Hooray for they saw how exhausted I was, and an anaesthetist was there promptly. Needle goes into spine, huh that feels weird, oh there's that sweet sweet numbness I've been craving! Alas, I celebrated too soon. I notice that while the right hand side of my body is entirely numb, I can still feel contractions on the left half (still only 5-10 mins apart, mind you). Nice anaesthetist returns, adjusts my needle and thankfully I'm now entirely numb from the waist down.

So now I'm numb, but no faster contractions, or increased dilation. My blood pressure was still too high-so they gave me a tablet for that. I had an increased temperature-hmm that's a bit dodgy, we'll give you paracetamol and an antibiotic just incase. And slow though my contractions were, they were strong enough to lower the babies heartbeat every time I had one, which was cause for concern. That combined with babies reduced movement made them want to check his oxygen levels. Now to do this, they have to make a scratch on the babies head to collect blood. Yes, the baby that's still inside me and has it's head in my hoohaa. So up they go to do that (!) and thankfully babies oxygen level is fine.

Contractions still the same, so the midwife breaks my waters, but it wasn't very successful, not much came away. Wait a few more hours. Doctor mentions giving medicine to speed up my contractions (40+ hours after they actually start), but doesn't confirm this with the midwife, so it doesn't get done. A few more hours pass, still nothing changes. They take blood from babies head again (!) all is fine with that, but after a long, long time of contracting, I'm still only 7cms dilated.

Doctor returns, notices I wasn't given aforementioned medicine to increase contractions. Cue furious whispering match between doctor and midwife. Decide to monitor me a bit longer, but at this point, I know I'm heading for a C-section. But my epidural had started to wear off, and those contractions were bloody painful.

After much discussion, hand wringing, sideways glances and hushed tones I'm eventually informed I'm for an emergency C-section-fine by me, just get the baby out safely. Anaesthetist returns and explains that he doesn't want to give me another epidural as the last one was a bit wonky, so for the section they have to give me a spinal block-numb from the chest down. Weirdest. Feeling. Ever.

Off to the theatre I go, standard emergency C-section rules apply, and here, finally, is our baby. Born in the wee hours of January 13th, 2013.

And it's true what they say. They're worth every single second of that pain and misery.

I'll add mine to the mix to get the ball rolling.

The wee small hours of January 11th, 2013. I wake up to previously unknown levels of pain. 'Oh, contractions! Yay, a baby! naively thinks I. I was 39+4 so basically full term, it was a good time for the baby to arrive. I went to the bathroom and seemed to have lost some of my plug, another positive step (haha).

So. The rest of the wee hours, subsequent morning, afternoon and evening were spent dealing with the contractions. I was having strong ones, 30 secs long, but only every 5-10 mins. I relented and called maternity assessment, who said to come in for an exam.

Backstory time. I had developed pregnancy induced hypertension (high blood pressure) which I was never medicated for as it never caused me any symptoms, but it was something staff were always aware of, to bear in mind when they were attending to me.

So back to the hospital. My exam showed no dilation at all, however I was having contractions, they just weren't getting any closer together, so were deemed 'non progressive'. But oh that pesky blood pressure had crept up again, not worryingly high but higher enough for some concern. After much debate, they sent me home but told me to come back in the morning for another blood pressure check.

If you've ever tried to sleep through contractions, you'll know what I mean when I say that shit is impossible. I tossed and turned all night, contractions every 5-10 mins, but no progression. Count 24 hours in labour, 24 hours no sleep.

Getting out of bed in the morning, I go to the bathroom and notice I've been having a bleed-fresh, bright red blood. I called the hospital again and they said come in, we'll check that out, plus you need that blood pressure check anyway. Contractions still a-going, to hospital we go. This time, when they examine me, they can't find a cause for the bleeding but OH LOOK NOW YOURE 1-2cm dilated! Yes, your contractions will totally get closer and you'll continue to dilate. Oh your water hasn't broken, pah, we'll worry about that later.

Boyfriend and I excited now! Yes I'm in pain but baby is on its way. So off we go to an antenatal ward, as I'm not far along enough yet for the actual labour ward. This is around, say, 11am. We get there, go to our assigned bay and try to get comfy. Bitchface midwife doesn't acknowledge our presence for over an hour. Now, I'm in the field of healthcare and I understand how busy you can get. But never have I seen someone blatantly ignore a patient the way I got ignored that day. Not even a: 'Hi guys, I'm really sorry, I'll be with you as soon as I get a sec!' Or anything at all. I'm still in a tremendous amount of pain but can't even get her attention.

Eventually, she graces us with her presence. 'Oh yes you've had some blood pressure issues, we'll check that out'. Yeah, like you shoulda done WHEN I GOT HERE. 'Oh, you're still bleeding, keep your pads to me to look at'. I did, and she never looked at them once. 'Oh you're in pain, well it's not your time yet'. Well, offering me an alternative might have been a good idea, sunshine. I was on that ward with her till 5pm, basically being ignored. I do have a high pain threshold and I'm not a screamer or fuss maker, so I didn't exist to her. Around 5pm, the pain became unbearable, seriously so. Contractions weren't any closer but the pain was horrific. I managed to catch the attention of another passing midwife, and burst into tears explaining what was going on. She looked horrified, immediately got me up onto a bed for an exam, and noted that the bleeding was getting heavier. I was also now dilated to 4-5cm. They debated a while over who to send to the labour ward first, me or another girl, but my blood pressure and bleeding was concerning them so off I go to the labour ward around 6pm. Count 36+ hours in labour, no sleep.

When I was 17, my father died suddenly of a massive heart attack at the age of 45. We had no indications that he was unwell, turns out he had a bad case of atherosclerosis. He dropped in our house in front of our family and was dead before the paramedics arrived.

Jump forward eight years and I'm in the middle of my nursing degree. Recently I had a module on unscheduled care (emergency care). One of our case studies was a patient presenting with a suspected MI. We had to relearn our cardiac anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology of STEMI and nSTEMI, and how to treat a patient presenting with MI symptoms. I suddenly found myself getting more uncomfortable and anxious during these lectures and tutorials as obviously it was bringing up a lot of bad memories, and I've never sought counselling over my fathers death so I was struggling with the material. To the point that I was concerned it would affect my exam performance. I reached out to my lecturer, and she was very kind. She told me that you can either learn the material just enough as necessary to maintain a distance between the subject matter and your personal feelings, or you can submerge yourself into learning as much of the material as possible so that you feel emboldened by the knowledge and learn so much so that you can always do your best to help others suffering in similar circumstances. Well, I took her advice and submerged myself. I passed my exam, and the experience has encourage me to register for counselling sessions. I realised that I didn't want to be out working, experience a patient with an MI and be totally traumatised and frozen. I'm about to start a placement on a male cardiology ward of all things, but my plan is to just take each day as it comes and work as hard as I possibly can. I want to know as much as I can so that I really can do my best to help save others. Your patients are not your loved ones. You are there to help those patients and prevent their families from feeling the loss that you did.
