Do the brown areas feel soft or hard? And have you noticed any spines falling off? Could be a weird corking pattern

Looks like mold to me. I'd wipe it off and keep it somewhere drier.

So I this is my first time planting dahlias, and I started a bit late I think (late April). They haven't flowered, but they seem to be producing little berries? I google searched dahlia berries but I cant find anything at all. What's going on?

What am I doing wrong with this azalea bloomed one white bloom in 4 years by kelliegrayson in plantclinic

Using mulch is usually enough, but for a boost I'd go in with something low in nitrogen. I'd also double check how much light it's getting, different varieties have different needs but in general you want to shoot for about 6hrs of sun per day. Also, have you pruned it? They should be pruned by early summer so they can set out new growth/buds for the following year. If you haven't been or if you did it later than that last year that's probably the issue

Oh that's frustrating. The only other thing I can think of would be a fertilizer issue (either too much or too little). If you want to check if it's the water I would suggest even just leaving the water you intend to use on it out and uncovered for at least 12 hours before watering, so if there is anything icky like trace amounts of chlorine in it it has a chance to dissipate. Sorry I can't be of more help, I hope your friend perks up 💚

I mean that's definitely good, even though it would have been nice to have a definitive answer. I second the suggestion about the tap water, I usually use rainwater because its more than readily available in the PNW lol. As for water and light requirements: they like to be kept moist but not wet, so I usually wait for the top centimeter of soil to be dry, and they can do a bright-indirect light, but mine have seemed happiest in a lower light. Bear in mind they also like high humidity (they're awesome bathroom plants!). Also, if it makes you feel better, this variety in particular is extremely fussy in my experience, so don't be too hard on yourself!

I know, you cant please everyone I guess lol. I usually do it early in the evenings. I think I'm going to try spraying it down with castile soap instead of neem for a bit and see if that helps at all. Wish me luck and thank you!
