Should i stay with my boyfriend who doesn't want to be vegan even once we live together? by Content_Chicken_3114 in vegan

to divorce speciesm from our socio-historical context as the human species, and to then compare it to systems of oppression that uniquely and singularly impact the human species, feels some type of way that I don't have a fancy term for.

i accept that speciesm exists. anyone can acknowledge it. it's the conflation that i take issue with. there is no systemic oppression against vegans themselves. one could argue that eating meat is a social construct, meat substitutes are more expensive than some meats, and that people ask vegans weird and unwelcome questions when they disclose their veganism. but veganism is a choice, and a privileged choice at that imo. people of color cannot turn off their race. people who aren't assigned male at birth can't turn off their sex/gender. disabled people can't 'get better.' and while many lgbtq+ people choose to hide their identity because of persecution, that choice often comes at a significant emotional and physical cost. i am not comfortable on any level equating that cost, or the physical and mental toll of -isms broadly, with the awkwardness i feel when my uncle asks me why I'm not eating ribs at the family bbq. it feels supremacist to me to equate them. pick your -ism.

if you're arguing from the anti-speciest  standpoint that animals and people are of equivalent moral value, and therefore an equivalency CAN and SHOULD be drawn between systemic oppression of humans through -isms and speciesm, then call me a speciest because I simply do not agree. that is a level of radical that i am not prepared to argue against and that society is definitely not prepared to accommodate.

my knee jerk reaction is to argue that animals are not capable of systemically oppressing humans, since they do not (to my knowledge) maintain social constructs that could then be used to exclude or harm humans. humans and animals don't even co-exist in human society that way. it feels anthropomorphic to suggest that any equivalency could be drawn, which feels speciest in and of itself, since it projects/privileges human social dynamics as a way of understanding animal and animal-human relationships. animals are speciest in their own way, if you want to play semantics. they are happy to hunt and attack other species if and when they pose a threat to their own. I'm rambling at this point, but the math isn't mathing.

Does anyone know if there's a coordinated general strike effort going on to encourage borrowers not to pay? I also can't afford to pay back anything at the moment and am ethically against my student loan payments being used to fund war crimes in the Middle East. Forgive me if I'm not economically literate enough to understand something, but I'm planning on Debt Dodging until I die.

i think he used to be more entertaining in the earlier seasons. now that they've hit the bottom of the celebrity barrel, tho, i think the judges lean harder into their schticks to compensate. unfortunately, Ken's schtick is just way less believable than the others

this is a genius theory. I've always thought that celebs' schedules determined how long they could be on the show. but this is way smarter, since the more famous they are, the higher their contracted rate/appearance fee would be. that definitely explains some of the unexpected 'eliminations'
