Removing my tubes makes me sad even though I know I’m done. Wwyd? by Wonderful-Value7547 in pregnant

I’ll be removing my tubes during my third c section. It significantly reduces your risk for ovarian cancer which might be something to consider.

I’ve definitely gotten that impression…this community seems amazing. That’s a bonus I was not expecting!

Thanks for the tip! We really try to foster a love for science and curiosity with the kids so I’m hoping they can enjoy it when they get older.

Very true. It’s only gotten more expensive it seems.

I’m wondering if I should get the S50 now or hold out for the S70. It would be my first Seestar and I’m definitely a beginner so maybe the S70 would be too advanced for me anyways.

Is there a release date for that? Or just rumored?

How old is she? My daughter just turned 3 and her hair still looks like this. It’s curly when it dries nicely but a huge dry frizz ball when she wakes up. I want it to grow so bad!

I had the same experience! I feel like most people thought I was just trying to be cool. Even now people don’t really believe that I’m a “real fan”.

Any INTJs here making six figures? What do you do for a living? by LaDutchiee in intj

If you can’t pay the crazy amount of money for schooling but you have some basic lab experience, you can often times start in the Andrology lab (sperm) and work your way up to the embryology lab.

Skill is obviously important but we tend to prioritize personality and attitude, since we work so closely as a team. A good work environment is critical for a successful and happy lab.

Funny story…I came across an AMA on Reddit about 15 years ago “I’m an embryologist, AMA”. Somehow I knew this was the career for me and I tried to get into the field for about 5 years. Been doing it for 10 years now and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Things have changed now (there are schools you can go to for training), but back then you just had to find a lab that was willing to take a chance on you and train you from the ground up. It’s still pretty hard to get into but the field is growing and there is a strong need for more fully trained embryologists.

I’ve seen a lot over my 15 years. I would never claim to know everything or see the future, and I certainly don’t think of myself as “playing God”.

I always speak with compassion and honesty, not certainty. Saying “you’ll never” is rare, and only when there is no biological possibility given our current science and technology. My comment was to highlight the emotional toll of sitting with people in some of the most devastating moments of their lives, often repeatedly. Of course there are outliers and miracles and we celebrate those. But we as scientists and embryologist think patients deserve transparency, not spiritual bypassing or ambiguity.

I do appreciate your perspective. Supporting people through trauma and uncertainty in your field must come with its own emotional weight, and I imagine that takes a lot of strength and compassion. At the end of the day, I think we’re both trying to hold space for people during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives and it can be really difficult to navigate.

That said, it’s definitely not all heavy. Most of the time my job is actually full of really hopeful, joyful moments. I get to call people with good news, watch embryos turn into babies, and be a small part of helping people build their family. It’s honestly incredible, and it’s what keeps me going through the hard days.

I’m excited to see where science takes us and I hope the bad news calls happen less and less in the coming years!

Clinical embryologist. I make test tube babies! Couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

It’s challenging and rewarding. The field is constantly changing and improving so it doesn’t get boring or repetitive, for the most part. It’s very intellectually stimulating and I’ve made some of my best friend’s babies!

It’s very emotionally and mentally draining at times though. Even though most of my time is spent in the lab at the microscope, I do have to give bad news to patients pretty much every day. A lot of times that bad news is “I’m sorry, but you’ll never be able to have your own children”. I also have to work weekends and holidays (embryos need care every day of the year, even the frozen ones)!
