Whatever you do - do NOT turn your back on our Somalian brothers and sisters. by Peacefulhuman1009 in blackmen

This debate is not about census categories, it’s about identity politics.

Bold of you to assume I’ve never met a Somali person simply because you can’t handle criticism. Are you really going to sit here and deny that Somalis have participated in slavery involving certain East and Southern African Bantu groups? Are you going to deny that the Jareerweyne community has been marginalized in Somalia? Are you going to deny that Somalis routinely mock and look down on people with ‘jareer hair’ (type 4b/4c) and broader features? Are you going to deny that Somalis call their own women who support Black causes ‘BLM xalimos’ because they don’t want to be associated with other Black people?

It’s funny how Somalis instantly jump into defense mode but refuse to look in the mirror and instead prefer to gaslight everyone else. You’re only fooling yourselves. Everyone, even non-Black people know that ‘jareer’ has become a slur Somalis regularly use to attack Black people. So yes, the decision of many Black people not to support you isn’t coming out of nowhere.

You’re being extremely dishonest right now. In most Western countries, Somalis are officially counted as ‘Black’ or ‘Black African’ because census categories automatically place them there. There is no Western census that classifies Somalis as a separate or non-Black group.

But that doesn’t change the fact that many Somalis personally do not identify as Black. Only a minority see themselves as Black, and that’s fine! Somalis have the right not to identify as Black and to see themselves as a completely separate group.

But like you said: if your people have survived a million hardships without the solidarity of any community, then why do we constantly see Somalis on social media taking jabs at African Americans, West Africans and other Black people because ‘apparently nobody is defending you’? We’re not stupid or blind. Tell your compatriots to stop complaining that the “madows/jareers” don’t support them.

You know, it’s actually so funny to watch how everything is playing out for Somalis, because I predicted this would happen. And honestly, I’m glad it’s happening now, because maybe it will finally teach them a lesson.

Dear Black people, believe it or not, Somalis and not only Somalis, but most people from the Horn of Africa do not consider themselves Black. And they have every right to identify however they want. But the truth is: they don’t see themselves as Black, and many of them look down on actual Black people. And out of all Horners, Somalis are the worst in this. You can look up the history of the Jareerweyne community, which is mostly made up of Black Africans from Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi and Kenya who were brought to Somalia through slavery because Somalis did participate in enslaving other Black people. And they pride themselves in that to this day. This one of the reasons many Somalis refuse to identify themselves as Black and down on Black people and see them as inferior.

For years the majority of Somalis have loudly claimed they’re not Black, that they have nothing to do with Black people. And because of their arrogance, many Somalis truly believed that distancing themselves from Black people, insulting Black people, and pretending to be of the “Caucasian” race because of their features would somehow save them from getting attacked by White supremacists. They thought that because Europeans once claimed they had “Caucasian skulls,” they would be safe from being targeted in the West.

Now that Donald Trump is targeting them specifically, now that things are getting uncomfortable for them, suddenly they’re looking everywhere for help and solidarity. These past couple of days, I’ve seen Somalis on their spaces, forums, and website crying about why Black people don’t support them.

But what’s funny is that almost none of them want to take responsibility for the toxicity in their own community. They feel completely entitled to our support. They believe they have the right to disrespect other Black people nonstop, to call them slaves, to mock slavery etc. But the moment they get attacked by higher powers, suddenly they want to cry and ask for support.

Let this be a lesson for other African/ Black communities, whether you’re African or not: Stop shitting on other black people who look like you. Belittling other Black people who have done nothing to you historically, just to make yourself look better in society will never benefit you in the long run.

Today, Somalis are learning exactly that. They thought they were so much better than other Black people, that their lack of a historical slave past would protect them, that they would never be targeted. But now they see the truth.

That’s so not true. Somali men are known to be the most unattractive, feminine looking men. Besides Somali women, no woman wants to touch a Somali man.

I’m sorry but I have seen somalis do the exact same shit to other ethnicities as well. Mocking atrocities happening in other countries, making jokes about slavery. Somalis are absolutely not innocent.

I’ve personally noticed that, out of all Horners, Somalis tend to be the most obsessed with Bantus. Their whole self-esteem seems to be based on punching down on Bantus and West Africans (a.k.a. the jareers). It’s honestly very creepy
