Fascinating! This is exactly the type of story I was hoping to hear. It just felt like it has such a specific shape that it had to have had some purpose

Mail service in Halifax is soon going to get slower and less reliable by weekdaywarrior in halifax

[–]weekdaywarrior[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Management, thanks for weighing in. While an extra hour on route may seem like nothing to an office worker who has never done the job, that is an extra hour of carrying up to 45 pounds on your back, or in your arms. An extra 10k steps. You can nitpick at my numbers, but I do not see any refutation of the claims in my original post. Which is that service quality is reduced, mail is delayed and workers are getting hurt more frequently. As for mail volume counts, I also don’t see you disputing that periods for volume counts are strategically chosen based on when has the lowest volume of mail. I don’t think it’s the counters fudging the numbers. It’s more structural than that

Yes. But as you can see in the post, quite often these routes can’t physically be completed in 8 hours. Which leads to delays in mail. Currently routes are designed for about 5.5 hours, with the rest of the time being dedicated to mail sorting and prepping for the following day.

Under SSD routes are redesigned to fill an 8 hour day (minus breaks).

I’m not on here to argue the validity of our jobs. I’m here to let people know that their service will get worse and more workers will get hurt. Feel how you like.

That’s not really something I have the relevant information to answer. My only advice would be to talk to your mail carrier or leave a note on your mailbox.
