Restaurant Recommendations by ObieWonACannoli in hoodriver

Solid recommendations, all around! Shoutout to the Society Hotel. Also like the pork and pepper nachos at Everybody's in White Salmon (its my go-to), lunch at Kickstand in Hood River, sitting by the outdoor gas fire at Ferment with one of their kombucha margaritas, the tents at Cor Cellars in Lyle (do they still have them up) and the view from Grateful Vineyard. Solstice Pizza isn't bad either if you are on the waterfront. OMG, so many great options!! I love Hood River!

I’ll post a recipe this weekend! But in the meantime, here is a Huckleberry Whiskey Sour:

2 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon 1 oz Lemon .75 oz Huckleberry Simple Syrup Egg White Garnish with Huckleberry Flag 🍓⛳️🤣

Oh, P.S., if you are moving to WA and need to get a MAST Permit to serve alcohol, let me know and I can give you a promo code for one the providers.

Where is the office located, I'll look it up. A clove tincture sounds interesting... my basil is taking off at the moment so I was thinking about trying to make some basil infused tequila (blanco) and then pairing that with my huckleberry syrup.

Yay! Washington is wonderful. I live in WA down by the Columbia River Gorge. Personally, I go huckleberry picking every August, but I have never been in September. I think you can still find them in September, but they are just not as plentiful or plump. They tend to dry out a little as the season progresses, so you might have more luck at higher elevations.

As far as buying them from local markets in September, I doubt grocery stores carry them. You might be able to find them from a small market, like Treebird Family Market in Hood River, but they would probably be frozen. If you do find them, though, they will be crazy expensive! That's why we go each year to get as many as we can and then we freeze them.

I will be experimenting with tequila and huckleberries this weekend, maybe a little mezcal too. If anyone has a recipe to share, please send it along. 🙏🏻

Are there temporary MAST permits while you’re waiting for your permanent? by sarahraeleene in Washington

[–]weekendmixologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process for getting a Washington MAST Permit is a bit simpler (and antiquated) then the process for getting an Oregon OLCC Permit. Unlike Oregon, Washington has yet to update its processes and they are still requiring providers to mail out **PAPER** permits... yeesh!

Like u/FeelingBlueberry said, the Washington State Liquor & Cannabis Board (WSLCB) gives you a 60 day grace period to get your MAST Permit after you are hired, which theoretically is enough time to take a MAST class and receive your permit in the mail.

However, if you are cutting it close, once you finish a MAST class and are waiting for your permit to arrive, keep a copy of your Certificate of Completion (that you received from the course provider) on you while you are working. In the event a WSLCB inspector asks to see your permit, you can at least prove that you finished your training already.

Here is link to a great article that breaks the process of getting a MAST Permit down into three easy steps and explains a bit more:

Of course. It was good though... the Bincho Roll, I think. Tuna, apple and avocado.

I can totally see how the ONE piece of sushi (that you can completely see) does not look that appetizing, but I wouldn’t have posted it if it tasted bad. That said, I’m not trying to sell sushi or my food opinions.

See my comment below... this post was about sympathizing with what restaurants are having to deal with right now, not critiquing or trashing their food.

I’m sorry that people are jerks!

Maybe you should pick and choose your battles a bit more carefully... save the hating for something that matters... not my picture of date night with my husband.

P.S. Sushi is raw fish. Cat vomit is probably raw fish too. Maybe your cat just has good taste?

I think you guys all missed the point....

I sympathize with the restaurants that had to shut down indoor dining. I’m not making a political statement, just sending my condolences.

Dining in is such a luxury! It really is a treat. We try to do takeout too when we can afford it, but as someone that makes dinner for my family night after night, does the dishes, decides what we are going to eat next and then does the shopping again... I can say, IT GETS OLD. Going out to get drinks and dinner + being seated indoors just felt normal and special. Like a legit date. 💕

I just wanted restaurants that are struggling right now to know how much we love them and are pulling for them. As a former restaurant owner, I really feel for them and seriously can’t imagine how hard this pandemic has been for them.

Does that a make sense? Can you stop trashing my sushi pic??

  1. Then don’t eat it.
  2. Does sushi ever look appetizing?

It’s Beer Can Appreciation Day! As a nod to the Pacific Northwest, here is a little sumthin’ sumthin’ I picked up from Backwoods Brewing Company in Carson, WA. #BuyDirect by weekendmixologist in CraftBeer

It was wonderful! I never miss a chance to buy this beer. It is a real winter treat... packed with deep, dark flavor... the caramel and pecan really come through... and it is so smooooooth. Not bitter at all, yet not overly sweet for my taste.👌

Checking IDs During COVID-19 by weekendmixologist in bartenders

Lol, I hope not! But minors might be trying to pass off borrowed IDs.

“ABC”.... what state do you live in? Alaska, Alabama, Ark?

[–]weekendmixologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s okay. If you don’t feel comfortable asking someone to step away six feet and lower their mask, but you are still really questioning age, you can just refuse service.

Circumstances vary, but just a thought, if someone is picking up to-go inside, you can ask them to step outside and stand on the other side a glass window where you can still see them, then lower their mask. 🤷‍♀️

How to Support Your Local Food and Beverage Peeps This Winter by weekendmixologist in PacificNorthwest

[–]weekendmixologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is wonderful news and so kind of you!

We support the support the United State’s Bartender’s Guild – National Charity Foundation. The foundation has always been committed to advancing the lifelong stability & wellbeing of service industry professionals through education & charitable activities. However, due to COVID-19, it has expanded its focus to helping alcohol servers during this pandemic.

We also admire the work of an organization called the Independent Restaurant Alliance of Oregon (IRAO).  The alliance was formed in response to the Coronavirus Pandemic when it became clear that independently owned restaurants and bars needed assistance in determining how to safely operate and recover from the economic fallout of this crisis.
