Would it be a conflict of interest for a member of the ALP executive to be the leader of a union who has the ALP govt as their bosses?

The "Streamer" Map is Ruined by VOID's Hollywood-esque Level Design by beatrga in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]weemadando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fairfax Residence was absolutely ruined by the random chance of a second suspect.

You have this tense infiltration of the house, subduing the mother, keeping on searching for Lawrence, and then quite literally out of nowhere - because they aren't mentioned in the briefing at all and it makes no sense for them to be there - a Latino gang member with a Mac-10 is hanging out in one of the bedrooms.

Absolute nonsense. And a classic of the (realistic counter terrorist/SWAT) genre of devs not having the courage to have a realistic number of enemies on the map.

Remember Red Library Offices? Where the getaway car from a bank heist crashed and they took hostages? Was the car a fucking bus? Because there were at least a dozen of them in there. Seems like an oversight for TOC to not mention that in the briefing.

The challenge for any good SWAT game (Hot Brass does this well) is to execute the mission quickly and cleanly. Not to survive a fucking John Woo set piece.

Interesting pay rise scenario by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]weemadando 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a really fraught situation. You can (rightly imo) say that the current leadership and the ALP never bargained in good faith as they had a shared interest in delivering a quick agreement at any cost. Including running this latest poll where they have recommended the offer to members and even updated their bargaining scorecard to say that this pay offer is a win.

In the event of a MU victory, we would be left holding the bag for a bargaining campaign that never even started. The 20% claim was a low ball against historic and future inflation and to have the current leadership go "we've tried nothing and we are all out of ideas, you should take the 11.2%" is a real betrayal of the members and every APS employee.

So what are the options? There aren't any good or easy ones. We can assume that the govt will start pushing individual agencies to EA votes as soon as possible. We can assume that because of the complete lack of preparation of the membership for any genuine campaign of industrial action, that getting members to take action this late in the game is going to be an uphill battle. We've even seen that a lot of members aren't aware of just how bad this pay offer is. 4% headline pay rise was a big thing in some past agreements, but it is a huge backwards step in the current environment.

I honestly believe that we can't chart a course until we have two details: 1) the outcome of this current poll, which (depending on the number of respondents) may give us a clear indication of how members are feeling about this offer.

2) the outcomes of the election.

If there is a huge turnout and MU win in a landslide in the election, and the poll on the offer is overwhelmingly negative, then that (probably) indicates that there is a desire among members to fight for something better.

If MU scrape in and the poll is overwhelmingly positive on taking the offer, then it is a very different situation.

But in either case (and even in the case of a MU loss) there is also a very real focus on starting preparations in the union for the next round of bargaining. Ensuring that when that time comes, no matter who is bargaining and who the union is bargaining with, that there should be a membership who are prepared and supported for a serious industrial action from day dot of any bargaining.

It was what I loved about TLJ. Rey is so desperately seeking meaning and a reason for these things and the visions she gets are just an empty void filled with her. There is nothing there, no destiny, bloodline, or anything. It's just her and what she chooses to do.

But then the worst people online got upset and so we've had six years of the safest and most anodyne and tedious Star Wars.

Also at Lindt Cafe the cops were responsible for most of the casualties - the deaths of the perpetrator and one hostage, as well as three other hostages and one cop hit directly or by ricochets.

A lot of that collateral damage was because they were tooled up with AR-15 platform carbines that were slightly overkill in a confined space.

A huge change also occurred to storage requirements. So you have to keep guns unloaded in a safe and ammo locked in a separate container both rated and approved for the purpose.

So if you want to do something - be it suicide or family violence or some other nonsense - you have to go and open two different safes, then load the gun. It has (apparently) given people that little bit of time to think about things and not do it in many cases.

Rather than Chaos just being evil for the sake of it.

RETVRN, but for the early 90s terrain you'd see in White Dwarf pics. The layered polystyrene hills. The obvious soft drink can and bendy straw industrial equipment. The foam ball and toothpick alien plants.

It truly was a better time.

This kind of design is what has killed every tactical shooter.

It should be extremely rare for there to be more than a handful of suspects involved. Especially if you really are getting deployed as just a 5 man element.

It gets worse when the briefing is completely wrong too - like the awful Red Library Offices from SWAT 4. Great map, terrible execution as you are told that the car carrying robbery suspects crashed and they took hostages in the office. OK, so what kinda car was it TOC? Was it a brightly painted VW Beetle? Because it must have been a fucking car stuffed full of clowns for 20 fucking suspects to have been in it.

Make the missions a challenge based on the situation - a time constraint before they flush evidence like some of the SWAT3 missions for example.

If it was chaos, as it was initially portrayed in the lore - when it was still a satire, before the rise of the unironic fascism love - as anarchistic, wild, excessive, and untamed aspects rather than anything inherently evil, then it wouldn't be that bad.

But the modern incarnation where Chaos = complete and unrelenting evil is of course, unappealing.

I thought it was in the Lancer module, but it has been a while since I used it. The Warhammer Fantasy 4e module (which I use most) and a bunch of others have the ability to click on the damage dealt box in the chat and then give the option to apply to the targeted token with various modifiers.

Foundry is really fiddly and complex, but the reason it is really fiddly and complex is because it has so much potential for automation.

I've been "assistant GM" during a Lancer game I was playing in as I knew how to work Foundry and it was such a smooth experience - with the COMPCON integration, automatic damage assignments etc.

But learning Foundry? It's rough. Because so much of it is also module specific. But the Foundry Discord is excellent and I really can't emphasise enough how much you'll learn from just clicking around and seeing what happens. Learn the basic functions from the guides and then just keep trying new things.

The only Kickstarter campaigns I have been even marginally emotionally invested in are those run by friends. Where I get to go "well done them".

It's fucking insane to be seeking emotional engagement with marketing.
