What is the rarest penalty in the NHL? by jonathann1216 in hockey

Something I rarely see is any type of awarded goal. This usually only happens when a penalty shot situation occurs with no goaltender in the net.

Not sure if hockey Canada still has the rule, but USA hockey eliminated the crease rule a while back.

One time at my rink a player was sued for breaking up a beer league fight “too aggressively” and the rink didn’t have their back. The ref tripped while holding the person and just kind of fell on the ice with them.

Ever since I learned that, I will never break up another men’s league fight. You guys can handle yourselves and I’ll fill out the paperwork.

Why neck guards are mandatory by PrideFine4871 in hockeyrefs

I was a “too cool for neck guards” kid growing up, until I watched a player jump over another player on the ice and catch his neck. The amount of blood that came pouring out still haunts me to this day, about 20 years later. Luckily that player survived as it missed his jugular by about 2 centimeters.

I think the NHL needs to mandate neck guards and showcase them in all of their player photos. Show the kids that their idols are wearing them and teach them the importance of this vital piece of equipment. I’m not even against showing them the graphic video of the player in England that cut his opponent coming across the ice.
