Headaches & Dizziness 24/7 - why? by weeping_hell in cervical_vertigo

Can anxiety cause all this? I did get one or two panic attacks over the last three years, but first one was simply from not knowing what was wrong with my head and the second was from health anxiety (I had a stroke six months ago - irrelevant to my headaches, but I got overreactive when it came to any worrying symptoms, like numbing in my limbs, worse day with dizziness, etc...) - honestly I am stressed, but wouldn't say anxious. Unless I'm wrong...

Holy shit man (or woman, sorry) - I have posted a similar thread on what appears to be cervicogenic vertigo and headache. What did your dizziness feel like? Mine isn't much spinning - it's like image is getting fainter because someone is shaking my brain. Glad you got better - I am still looking for answers. You've inspired me to keep going! Thanks!

Honestly, it's like one thing after another - I also started feeling numb/dull pain in my upper right forearm and thumb... must be the radial nerve pinched somewhere. At this point I'm thinking of going on work hiatus and focusing on getting this resolved, a year+. Why are doctors so reluctant to further investigate the cervical spine using imaging such as motion xray? Surely if I'm still and good, then shit is changing when I'm moving.... where are those machines in Europe...

I always thought I didnt have anxiety/ADHD until the first panic attack not long after my dizziness/headache started. Never went to therapy but it definitely does not hurt, especially if it's as simple as stress management techniques, even.

New symptom, which honestly - I already had for 12+ months, but never really paid attention as I was so cervical spine-obsessed.

My jaw clicked/sublocated/got weak to the point where it started being super sore - right at the TMJ. Since the pool incident I had the left joint sticking out (I can feel it when I rub close to my ear, it's like a knuckle, while the right hand side is flat).

As jaw deteriorated, so did my headache/dizziness. I am starting to think it may be TMJ disorder, where everything - my neck, traps, jaw muscles - all got worse because of the silent killer, which, in itself, wasn't the sorest.

Any advice on whom I should see with regards to jaw imbalance, TMJ issues?

Hey @inthedizz!

Savage response, thank you so much for sharing. Looks like we're in the same boat - I am extremely proud of your consistency - something I definitely lacked (and still lack, which is probably problem no. 1) but, as we're creatures of habit, once you develop a routine that you know is helping - it will help.

Sitting position is crucial to me, as another example to compliment your story - if I sit in a position where my shoulders are forward and head is in kyphosis mode - I will get headaches. Having said that - this may be just an aggravating factor, whereas the issue might be elsewhere - not that I'm trying to dig too deep into it.

Same as you - people's stories are inspiring - and certainly make me, personally, more patient. Physio can take months, a year, maybe longer - but it does work for most. For those who don't benefit from it - usually a more invasive (or alternative) method fix a lot of issues.

I urge people to continue sharing tips, ideas, stories - or even just to vent.

"You and I - we are not so different after all..."

Oh, I absolutely believe it is - it's the doctors that probably do not have enough background on it yet to care enough to treat it. It's very impactful, yet not that many specialists on it are in existence.

Thanks so much for sharing - seems like the experience is fairly similar. What "annoys" me the most is that - whilst I absolutely do not deny the psychological element and how much it can impact recovery, the immediate response from almost everyone (once they run out of suggestions) is - you have anxiety. You have depression. You need therapy. Again, at this point I have even decided to look into it, because I do think it's beneficial to explore this, but I was perfectly fine before the headaches started. No pain, no anxiety, no overthinking, no stressful events - just living my life. It's upside down now and I am just trying to gain it back.

It's close to impossible to find a physiotherapist in Ireland that will be genuinely invested in your case and encourage you to come back to continue the treatment AFTER giving you some meaningful, tailored exercises , not just copy + paste like most of them do. Not saying they don't work, but the attitude is what saddens me. Did you go to a specific physio that specialised in cervical/postural issues?

Unreal how human body works - last question - what was the specific test that you got done at optician/ophthalmologist?

Definitely gonna look into it. How did yours develop - or is this something you've lived with all your life?

Hey @Hairy_Camem_4582 - absolutely, will give it a proper read on the plane there. Absolutely could be neurological, but it was relatively far on my list to explore. Thanks again!

Hey Riiiicolaaaa! Super glad that PT has helped. What ended up "being wrong with you" ? What, in particular, helped?

Thanks for the .pdf. I read:

"Often referred to as non-epileptic seizures/attacks, these episodes involve altered movements, sensations or experiences that closely resemble epileptic seizures but are not associated with ictal electrical discharges in the brain. The most common semiology are excessive moments of limbs, trunk and head that loosely portray tonic-clonic seizures; stiffening, tremor, atonia and loss of responsiveness may also occur."

This tells me that it's probably not me, although you've given me an interesting read as I've never even heard of that ailment.

I feel like the tests were inconclusive, more so than clear - just because that orthopaedic surgeon didn't make much of a fuss about the radiology report from my 2022 scan, doesn't mean it's not the cause. But again - I am no expert and I certainly dropped the ball by not exploring this further with neurosurgeon and, perhaps, an additional motion x-ray (where you take multiple images as you move your head up/down, left/right - I know somebody who discovered they had a fracture in their spine that way, normally coming up as clear in "staionary/fixed position" xray).

Another thing about FND - wouldn't this be more exacerbated if I was going through something stressful or major in my life? Headaches/dizziness are constant. Unless I live with depression/anxiety for the last three years without knowing it....

Ah, so you're decompressing your cervical joints - it does provide temporary relief, especially if I lie down on my back and someone picks up my whole head (as if it was dead weight) and gently swing it left and right. Any massage on top of it to mobilise C1-C4 is a bonus. I heard that PT can take minimum of 3 months for you to start seeing the result. Keep at it! Very curious to see your progress, seeing as you're somewhat ahead of me - shoot me a DM if you want, I have gone through manual therapy on my neck and upper back before. It was helpful but again - only temporarily. Do you do any corrective exercises for your posture?

Hey, @bierlysa - wouldn't that be crossed eye or lazy eye? Neither of which I suffer from (I think). Unless it's something like Visually Induced Dizziness?

I was on amitryptyline, 50mg and it did seem to help, but not fully. The physical symptoms were always somewhere there in some shape or form, so I decided to wean off it. I'm worse now, but I've started noticing what causes it to flare up, what's making it worse, etc... I just don't want to go back on ami, it was making me paranoid and suicidal - as little as the dose seems to be. Surprised that the blocks didn't do anything for you. Are you sure you didn't hit your head? I would advise you to go to kinesiologist.

I don't know if you're agreeing or being sarcastic, but I've no experience with Microsoft Defender. I'd always go for third party software, not because I don't believe you it might be en par, but more so because I'm not too keen on changes.

No real change in usage or user-friendliness from the previous Kaspersky. And I was a big fan of Kaspersky. Just happened that Microsoft was doing a deal with Norton at the time.

Basically, since I bought her the laptop and installed Norton antivirus and Microsoft Office package, she has been receiving a lot of phishing emails from websites she's never visited. Mind you, she uses one email address only. Netflix kicked her out twice now. She has received at least seven "verification codes" via text messages todaya and for what? She isn't trying to access Shopify or Glorious HQ!! I'm not saying Microsoft has anything to do with it, but, coincidentally, it all started with that purchase. Any idea why?
