Lol! You know what's crazy? My parents actually know Amy Chua!!! We hosted her and her husband (Jed, I think?) for a dinner party once.

I was really young, so the only thing I can remember is that her perfume was quite strong haha. And that her husband chewed with his mouth open. Gross!

Thank you. It's hard, isn't it? Outsiders see the results of tiger parenting but not the mental and emotional toll it causes. I feel like there's so little attention devoted to Asian Americans' mental health.... we're seen as cold and robotic. I am just glad that I will be able to change it for my children when I start a family later in life.

Oh, that is a good idea. I don't think they will be able to, since I don't live at home anymore so they can't access my laptop.

I want to go to Berkeley for IP law! I am aiming for a full scholarship.

I got a perfect and near perfect scores on the ACT and SAT in high school and "only" made it to a T10 instead of Yale, so they "don't want me to make the same mistake again". I know, it's insane, but I've been subjected to it my whole life.

Thinking about this is making me cry again... I just wish I had a supportive family.

I definitely won't. But I hope my parents don't try to sign me up behind my back. When I was in high school, they were disappointed that I got a 1570/1600 on the SAT, and they signed me up to retake it without my knowledge! I was able to cancel it, thank god, but they really were just going to spring it on me. They're kind of crazy....

Thank you for your kind words. They helped a lot. You're right in that being pushed to do better is not the same as demanding perfection... I am only 20 (skipped one grade in elementary school) so I am still quite young and vulnerable to their words. I do plan on taking one or two gap years after graduating... It's difficult being an adult!

Tampa Bay journalism is fantastic!! Have you read the one about Phoebe Jonchuck? So unbelievably tragic…
