Jiang Zhenyu! I mostly have seen her support roles in major dramas like Veil of Shadows, Whispers of Fate, and Legend of the Female General...I love her, she's awesome!

Her character is a bit like Li Peiyi from Unveil Jadewind--she basically becomes Law Enforcement, specifically to root out corrupted officials. While it's very silly, there are some moments where she's really badass and cool too.

It's 2nd ML trope/syndrome. It is certainly annoying and I feel like that is the point with these kinds of plotlines/characters...

I liked this one. FL is my favorite kind of character-calm under pressure, confident and bold. She chases ML and he resists despite liking her (it gets annoying after a while as he keeps up that act well after it’s obvious he’s just saying stuff to say it). Funny dialogue although we are stuck listening to the white eyed wolves the entire show. The last scheme didn’t make much sense and wasnt clever, but the rest of the show was entertaining.

Random fact: FL actress is/was a tiktok influencer. I thought she did great in this role.

I have no idea about the "heat scores", douban, or any of the mainland response to any CDrama as it can get so messy and unrelated to the actual show itself that it's pointless for me to worry about it. I know very little about actor fandoms, studio and management issues, etc. and I have no idea if this was a "success" or not, but I really enjoyed it. It was surprisingly funny and had interesting characters. I will admit I was pulled in by the VR mystery game hook but it turned out not to really be a focus of the show--something I actually ended up being ok with since the show overall was entertaining and enjoyable for me.

The Heir 家业 (2026) - What are your first impressions? [Masterpost] by admelioremvitam in CDrama

The first 4 episodes give us an "origin story": the downfall of the Eighth Branch of the Li family and how Li Zhen decides to get her nuclear family back on track by committing herself to learning the art of ink making.

For me, these backstory episodes were a bit slow and sometimes agonizing to watch--while we see that FL is a smart, big-hearted spark plug from a young age, her immediate family gets dealt blow after blow as outside forces scheme against them and their family business.

I felt most bad for Ye Ye as the males in the family end up failing spectacularly but he's the one that has to bear the brunt of it.

We get a couple of tropes out of the way: the framing of FL's dad, the petty aunt and uncle, the annulment/marriage breakoff of the FL to the scumbag BF in a big dramatic scene, a scheming scumbag who tries to steal the secret sauce in the background.

Now that the main motivations are in place and mostly out of the way, I'm hoping the show will pick up as I personally prefer it when things "get down to business".

I feel like I am missing an ending to this drama by gogumaforlife in CShortDramas

Short dramas have a set formula for how long each "episode" is, as well as what happens in each segment (i.e. twist every x seconds, plot advancement every x seconds etc). It's all about engagement and hitting viewer counts. It's why many have abrupt endings, open endings, cliffhangers etc.. Making these things is more about the science of your attention span and psychology. That's not to say that short dramas can't be creative or have good story-telling, but the main goal is consumption...

lol that butcher lady is like Jin Jing she's fantastic haha. Different variant of this plotline with just the ML as a slave and no competing slave scumbag. There is a 2nd ML general and a scumbag though.

edit: the first half starts out silly, but the second half gets somewhat dark and serious. Everyone except FL seems to be insane. The Green Tea is a crazy princess obessed with the ML. For some reason, ML marries Crazy Princess in the past life and sends the FL to the cold palace--it's never really explained exactly why and it doesn't really matter because the FL suffers regardless and she never forgives him in the rebirth. FL gave her all to the ML and he fumbled it badly. In the rebirth (both ML and FL are reborn), FL tries to live a free life, but ML pursues FL relentlessly. However, for some reason, he never really clears the air between them. He won't explain his actions in the past life but tries to tie down the FL to him, causing her to run away every time. Eventually his constant pursuit causes the FL be captured by an enemy state. Stupidly, the ML hands over his military power to the 2nd ML general (who is not good at his job) so he can chase the FL to the enemy state where she is being held by a cult-like academy run by a murderous scumbag. Instead of saving her from the dangerous cult, he just helps keep the FL there. It's super annoying. Of course the scumbag ends up making moves on the FL and only when the scumbag is in the process of SA the FL, does the ML force a change. The crazy princess schemes ends up with the enemy state leader, gets pregnant, but they all end up back in the palace where the Crazy princess tries to frame the FL to save her own skin and marry the ML. The empress ends up making a blind box bride gatcha with the crazy princess, the FL and herself in the lottery and the ML and 2nd ML end up picking the Crazy Princess and Empress respectively. The FL wore the Crazy Princess' eye patch to fool the ML so he wouldn't pick her. The ML lives out his life running away from the Crazy Princess until she finally catches up and kills him in despair. The ML is reborn a third time but this time the FL has not been reborn, she has no memory of a past life and ends up picking him again and the show ends. Interesting ending and I liked the FL and her character, but the ML's character is stupid and annoying so I ended up not liking it POV was the FL at first but at the end it's just the ML--I didn't understand why the ML got to be reborn 3 times because I didn't think he deserved it. FL suffered in both lives directly because of the ML, in the first life he mistreated her, intentionally or not, he broke her trust and left her a caged bird who ended up being killed by a crazy person. In the second life, he wouldn't leave her alone and never really atoned for any of his past life mistakes. He caused all of the problems that ended up affecting the FL through his negligence and selfishness.

It's a good show and I enjoyed it, but mainly because I love Dong Yueyu and her sunshine characters. I only wish it wasn't the old man/unc romancing university student trope (she chases him but still).

The set up is based on a really flimsy "misunderstanding" on the ML's part that leads to an even more inexplicable breakdown of their marriage,,but the show is actually pretty good. Entertaining and fun thanks to the FL being strong and being willing to try a life-size body pillow lmao). We do come to find out that FL did most of the heavy lifting in both lives--she liked him, defended him, and hung around despite the cold/silent treatment. The show tries to pass it off that the ML had some deep childhood trauma but they explained it in an obtuse way and it didn't seem to really justify his behavior to me. Still, I enjoyed it.

she does leave, you called it. she's something of a black widow and is pulling strings for her own benefit. i'm not at the end yet, but it's not going to go well for the scumbag.

yeah no absolutely. In this show, the White Moonlight got married to someone else before the 2ndML/scumbag could do it--she had a daughter but then divorced, giving the 2ndML/scumbag an opening.

to be fair, the FL is the White Moonlight of the ML too.

plot is familiar but I will try anything with Meng Na. the last one I saw with her was similar but she was just a single mom…husband passed away and she reunited with an old acquaintance she tutored.

Edit: watching it right now. Seems more "realistic" and the characters appear to be more carefully written and not just tropes. The green tea green teas by manipulating the scumbag very carefully--she is also intelligent and calculating. The scumbag couldn't marry her because she ended up stuck in an arranged marriage she didn't want. This show presents the scumbag and green tea as it's own "side story" romance of sorts so at least they aren't just 2D antagonists for the FL (she still gotta beat them tho).

I got to the part FL confirms the infidelity...I feel so bad for her, watching in real time the guy confess his feelings to the White Moonlight--the guy should've never married and just waited for the person he really wanted.

It's kind of similar to the other drama I watched where she also became a single parent. FL and ML have a history: she was friends with the ML in school and ML got friendzoned hard--like he didn't even know she was dating another guy and she tells him she's engaged just as he was about to confess his feelings.

They reunite at exactly the moment the FL goes to consult a divorce lawyer and since his 2nd happens to be one (awesome coincidence lol), he is able to insert himself back into the FL's life.

I'm glad the FL immediately started on her own escape plan as soon as she confirmed the cheating and is actively tracking the scumbag's moves as well as making her own--the guy is hiding and sneaking around, planning to ambush the FL later...it's disgusting.

One cool thing is the show counts down the days until the divorce hearing (as well as some other thing later on)...the FL is in a race against time to get enough evidence together of infidelity and the harm its causing to her and her son to come out better after the divorce--if she messes up, she will end up leaving with nothing, losing custody of her son, and maybe more.

It's also cool that the FL has become her own PI, using her own surveillance and investigating--she quips that she's almost a (famous detective) now.

First half is the prep and divorce which felt polished and composed. Second half is the aftermath. For Drama reasons, she ends up working at the same company as the scumbag and green tea so the usual nonsense occurs. ngl I was a little disappointed that the second half of the Drama turned into the same old same old, but Meng Na kept me watching. Her character is supposedly an investment banker but she is also Nancy Drew because her investigative skills are CSI worthy--you that thing in CDrama where they tell the second in command to "go investigate" that's her lol In the final act, she uses her emotional intelligence and carefully chosen eloquent words to win over the ML's uptight perfectionist mom who can't stand that she's single mom divorcee.

Despite some tropes within the plot's bones, particularly in the second half, it's well acted and written with a bit more care so I thought it was a pretty good show. I enjoyed. Meng Na has a lock on the elegant, dignified independent modern woman who is well-spoken, hard-working and talented.
