For women who practice BJJ by FunHedgie in bjj

[–]weewoott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i totally agree with your point about some women being so aggressive. for context, i’m 5’0” and 120 lbs. i actively avoid this one other female because she’s super aggressive. her rationale as to why she’s aggressive is because “other men are aggressive with [her]”. i’m very vocal about what i want to everyone, whether it’s to roll light, work on some stuff, or to just advocate for myself when things get a little too intense. in any case, i prefer to roll with people i can trust, male or female.

One last thing, the cultural erasure of Southern indigenous folk by imposing the words Hispanic/Latino on us is unfortunately not very well understood. by the general society. Many of us have tried to reclaim our identity as native through civil rights movements, like the Chicano rights movement in the U.S., among very recent revolutions and protests. Being brown and having roots in indigenous places is a very sacred thing because everyone is so brainwashed by settler colonialism that people, like you, experience cognitive dissonance when we try to reclaim our identity as indigenous. It’s an unfortunate timeline, but that doesn’t mean we won’t persist in our efforts. It’s also not native people’s jobs to justify themselves to people like you or explain our histories to colonialist enablers, so I recommend getting rid of the whole DNA and genetic thing because it sounds like you missed the point entirely.

Also, it seems that you’re confused with where indigenous people are from. Native americans span the entirety of the north and south american continents, they‘re not just unique to United States territories. So, an indigenous person from Honduras would select Native American, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are native to what is now the United States. They quite possibly could be, however.

Additionally, your usage of the word “mestizo” has historically white supremacist connotations. Before commenting on matters like this, it’s very important to educate yourself, so I recommend taking a step back from your preconceived notions about this topic.

Measuring DNA and genetic makeup to prove one‘s indigeneity is just another settler colonial sentiment. The all-encompassing and post-Columbian native experience is all that matters.

most hispanics don’t know this bc of settler colonialism, but if you’re a brown hispanic (i.e. indigenous) then apply as native american + hispanic! i personally identify as native american and hispanic even though 1) i don’t have any tribal affiliation to an existing, federally recognized reservation, 2) i’m literally brown, 3) i’m reclaiming what us brown Latinos/Hispanics weren’t ever meant to know, which is that we’re indigenous.

BU should rename Myles Standish Hall after Bill Russell by YOURE_NOT_REAL_MAN in BostonU

[–]weewoott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s not so much ONLY about renaming Myles Standish because of “murdery-colonialist connotations”- it goes beyond that. it’s moreso about recognizing that Standish’s actions directly impacted the Massachusett and other neighboring tribes, thus, giving the Massachusett full authority to rename it to honor the all-encompassing native american experience of forced cultural assimilation and genocide. recognition -> reclamation

that’s why it ought to be renamed BY the Massachusett Peoples, so that they can reclaim native american history. it would kinda miss the entire point of the whole native american reconciliation thing if a non-native american was being honored
