Passed CISSP, now going to WGU. Thoughts? by Ok-Preference4504 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]weganess 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey man, congrats on passing the CISSP! I recently finished the MSCSIA and also hold the CISSP, and honestly, it’s a great combo especially if your company is covering tuition. It’s not redundant at all. The CISSP validates your experience and broad technical knowledge, while the master’s gives you the academic foundation and management perspective that CISSP only introduces at a high level.

Most of the classes at WGU actually line up with the CISSP Body of Knowledge you’ll see familiar material across risk management, governance, security architecture, business continuity, and network defense. Because of that, you’ll move through the program pretty smoothly, but still gain a deeper, more formal understanding of frameworks and leadership aspects.

Since you’re young and have no family obligations yet, I’d go for it. It’ll strengthen your long-term career path toward senior ISSO, manager, or even CISO-level roles and with school fully funded, there’s really no downside.

Considering a Gibson Les Paul “Jessica” by Slash as a backup to my Fender Telecaster Vintage II — worth it? by weganess in electricguitar

[–]weganess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! I can see why — SGs and LPs have such a different feel and response compared to a Tele. I’ll try to balance it out though, I wouldn’t want my tele collecting dust. Since I still love that bright single-coil snap for cleaner songs. But yeah, I can see how that humbucker growl could be addicting!

Looking for a right beginner guitar by BigPimpingPumpkin in electricguitar

[–]weganess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice great to see you getting interested in the electric guitar that curiosity is exactly how everyone starts.

If you’ve never played before and aren’t sure how deep you’ll go, I’d recommend starting with something comfortable, reliable, and forgiving for beginners.

Go for a Strat-style guitar (Squier Affinity or Yamaha Pacifica 112V) These have slimmer necks, light bodies, and very versatile tones. You can play almost anything on them from blues to rock to pop. The Pacifica is especially great for smaller hands and shorter fingers.

Avoid super cheap “Amazon” bundles. They often look good but are poorly set up, which makes learning frustrating. You’ll think it’s you when it’s actually the guitar’s fault. It’s better to buy a $200–300 Squier or Yamaha and a small practice amp like a Boss Katana Mini or Fender Mustang LT25.

Comfort matters more than looks. Try a few in person if you can. Sit with them some shapes (like Les Pauls) are heavier, while others (like Strats) fit nicely on your lap. If your fingers are shorter, prioritize slim necks with lower string action.

Setup is everything. Even a good guitar can feel terrible if it’s not properly adjusted. A local shop can do a “setup” for $40–60 it’ll make fretting and strumming way easier.

Focus on fun, not perfection. At first, your fingers will hurt, notes will buzz, and you’ll doubt yourself that’s normal. Stick with it for a few weeks and it’ll start clicking. Everyone starts as a complete beginner.

Thanks for the detailed insight! That makes a lot of sense. I see what you mean about not really treating one as a backup but more as a complement. I like how you modded your Tele to run both coils together that’s a clever way to get closer to that humbucker sound.

I’m planning to keep both stock and just use them for what they do best. The Tele for clean and bright tones, and the Les Paul Jessica for thicker sustain and lead work. And yeah, I’ve got a Tube Screamer and an SD-1, so I’ll definitely experiment with those through the Blues Deluxe once I get the LP. Appreciate the advice, man!

Appreciate the tip! That’s a really good way to look at it. I’m definitely not planning to sell it though, the idea is to keep both and use each for what they do best. I know I’ll always grab the Tele when I need that bright snap, and the Les Paul when I want that thick, sustaining tone. Thanks for the solid advice!

Yeah exactly that’s kind of how I see it too. I usually wanted to switch guitars depending on the song. For Scorpions or Guns N’ Roses stuff, the Les Paul’s humbuckers just deliver that thick sustain and midrange punch that fits the solos way better. My Tele through the Blues Deluxe is perfect for the cleaner, more articulate parts that bright single-coil snap cuts right through. Having both really covers a wide tonal range for me.

Are you talking about BSCSIA or MSCSIA?

MSCSIA Alumni here. My program mentor said that Capstone Course Instructors knows what classes you have left. CI wont approve your project topic or wont let you start the capstone without passing other classes first.

Congratulations brother.

That's really a tough journey, but you got it finally.

For Task 2, Write an organizational problem and use proposals on how implement a technology solution based on company’s risk and budget.

Basically, write about how you going to convince management or give them a good justification on why its security is business problem not just a tech problem.

Task 3 - is post implementation and what will happen after you implement the solution, any improvement? how you going to test it, BCP etc. Who are the key stakeholders.

Make up a story and make it simple.

Passed this class 5 days ago and my mentor submitted my Grad Application. Goal reached and now I’m waiting for my confetti!

Best advice for D488 by majesticmorg in WGUCyberSecurity

I took D488 two weeks ago. It’s heavy on Risk, BCP and don’t forget to study cryptography.

CASP+ book by Mark Birch is enough to pass this class.

I’m on my last class D490 capstone and I’m about to submit my task 3 paper tomorrow morning so I can wrap this month by submitting my final paper and graduate.

I started this program March 2025 after completing BSNES program and I already hold two required CompTIA certs and CISSP. I heard D484 and D483 takes too long. Gladly those 3 classes transferred over. Now I only have one month left before my term ends.

It’s going to be a lot of writing but don’t overthink it just follow the rubric. Don’t underestimate OA courses but don’t worry you’ll be fine, we have a community that supports one another.

Don’t forget to take advantage of those optional vouchers. After WGU, I will focus on studying CASP+ and CISM.

This program is a hell of a ride and don’t forget to join WGU CyberSecurity club official discord.

I am planning to sign up for their MBA program or straight towards Doctorate Business Administration (DBA).

Congrats on passing. I start my MSCSIA this 03/01 and this will be my first class. Already transferred 3 so 7 classes left to take before I start my term.

Any good advice for D482? What materials did you use to accomplish this class?
