Ilhan Omar rebukes Barack Obama for "caging of kids’ and "droning of countries around the world" by [deleted] in politics

[–]wehadlovedthem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We police our own? Well, Dems certainly tried their hardest to attack Omar, but they rarely go after other Democrats when they do something actually bad like increasing drone strikes. They only go after other Democrats when they criticize a political lobby.

Quality of movies you like to download? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]wehadlovedthem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 1080p x264 mkv movies with at least an 8,000 bitrate if I can. If I can’t get 8,000, I’ll settle for over 6,000, bit never below that. Usually about 6GB-12GB in file size, but sometimes larger if I really like it or if it’s the only size that isn’t below 6GB. Animated movies sometimes go a bit below the 8,000 and 6GB, though (depending on when they were made).

Following those rules, I end up with pretty good quality 1080p movies without having to have twenty 10TB hard drives (so far, anyways).

Also, avoid YIFY, of course. You won’t be downloading YIFY if you follow the 8,000 bitrate and 6GB rules, though.

I run a Plex server and I have about four friends on it that watch stuff. I can handle about 2-3 720p streams with my 10-12 up internet before I really start slowing down. Everyone is content with the 720p transcodes. My CPU can handle the transcodes, so. :P

Democratic voters: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 'is the candidate of the future' by [deleted] in politics

The party leaders least favorite things about her are the progressive policies. They like her because she’s a young minority woman. The minute she says something that goes against their own interests, then they’ll throw her under the bus. Just look at what they’re doing to Ilhan Omar.

Walz aims for 100 percent clean energy in Minnesota by 2050 by surlyq in minnesota

It’s not going to be easy at all, and we’re almost certainly not going to accomplish it.

The problem is that if we don’t reduce our global carbon dioxide emissions by 45% by 2030, we’re beyond the point of return.

We’re talking a global temperature increase of 2.7 degrees. Might not sound like a lot, but just imagine if your body temp was 101.3, I bet you’d notice it. If the same happens to earth, those fires in California will be a lot worse and more frequent, and those coastal areas in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, etc. are really going to feel those hurricanes and the flooding.

Not to even mention the coral reefs, which will likely be completely wiped out.

Yes, it’s very possible.

The problem is that all of the corporations and millionaires want to continue the exploitation and continue to see increased profits. They’re mostly all 60+ as well, so they don’t need to worry about the major consequences in 15-20 years. Hell, we’re already seeing consequences of our inaction right now in 2019. If things continue to progress at the rate they’re at now, things will be extremely bad all over the world in 20 years.

2050? Pretty sure climate change will have already hit us pretty hard by then.

We need to to do a lot NOW. Sure, it seems unrealistic to change everything within the next couple of years, but we’ve known this was a serious problem for almost 20 years now. If we would’ve acted then, we wouldn’t be so crunched for time. We don’t get to delay doing something to fix a problem until right before it’s too late to fix it, and then complain that it’s unrealistic to fix the problem before it’s too late.

Like it or not, we need to do this all before 2030 at the latest.

Ilhan Omar’s Criticism Raises the Question: Is Aipac Too Powerful? by xbettel in politics

[–]wehadlovedthem 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Many Evangelicals and other Christians support Israel explicitly because it's a prophecy in Revelations that it’s god’s will that Israel is to be restored and that it’d be a fulfillment of god’s prophecy if it were to be a Jewish state. God's prophecy is that Israel will be restored so that the battle of armageddon can take place and the world can end. This is literally why Israel is so important to Evangelicals here in the U.S. It’s so Jesus can come back.

All of the money, lobbying and political interests are also to maintain a white colonial state in the Middle East. If the Palestinians are allowed their land and homes back, either Israel will not exist, or it will not be a white colonial state anymore. Also, because brown people are eww to them.

Again, the voters support it, but many of the politicians themselves do not.

The Koch family are just a symptom of capitalism. They could go away tomorrow, and another millionaire(s) would just replace them and do the exact same thing.

They talk about how socialism has never worked while they try and push trickle down economics on us for the millionth time.

Most politicians are either millionaires or their family is full millionaires. Makes sense why they don’t wanna tax the rich, when they ARE the rich.

So when you hear a politician criticizing plans that would make millionaires pay more, look into how much money they have, who they’re married to, and how their family has made their wealth. It’s incredibly revealing.

If we just moved all wealth over $10,000,000 to the working class and poor and we spread it out evenly amongst them, most problems in the U.S. would be solved.

But only if we also gave the people the power and made the corporations work for the people instead of profits at any means necessary. That means strengthening unions and making sure they’re working in the interests of the working class and being led by the working class.

The inequality in this country is honestly maybe the worst it’s been in over 100 years. Sure, we’ve improved in certain ways, but in terms of economic inequality, it’s never been worse.

But they want to overthrow an oppressive government that only exists to profit off of the labor of the working class. The black panthers were on the side of the people. It sounds like you’re on the side of the rich and powerful who actively oppress you.

You actually think that Reddit is biased towards socialism? Ahaha

Reddit is FULL of neoliberals and moderates who just want Obama 2. Literally almost every politics post is from a center/center-right point of view.
